Pope is guilty of abandoning his team today.

Yep. My only issue was Pope and his high road with the refs. I've been consistent with that for 50 years. I just don't like it when the refs are borderline cheating. Too many folks misunderstood my post. I probably wasn't very clear.
That OK most of us older fans don't like to see UK lose. I apologize calling you a fake fan.

how long does Pope got to do something special here
Absolutely should not be more than five years. He's pretty darn intelligent, though that can mean many things. If he can't get this program to elite status (that means going deep in the NCAA Tournament) within five years, then he's just not cut out for this level of competition given the recourses available. And it's not magically going to happen the fifth year. Change starts now. Honestly, right at this very moment the two changes I've seen are that he's much more mature on the sidelines than Calipari was, and the offense is more enjoyable to watch. But there are things that are concerning.

I had to miss the game but I recorded it. I checked the score occasionally during the game so I knew the outcome. The video of the teams before the game started was very telling. Coach Pearl gave a very motivational speech and his team was fired up. Coach Pope spoke in a calm matter of fact tone which was followed but one player (Carr) giving a slow clap.

The anti- Mormon anti-classy coach is such embarrassing BS.

That Mormon won a national championship and was a respected team captain of other young man at UK. That Mormon played in the NBA. That Mormon went to med school. That Mormon earned one of the most elite coaching challenges in college basketball.

If you hate him... Fine... But the schtick that he's weak/incompetent because he's a Mormon... And that he's not passionate about winning because he doesn't behave like a middle schooler and scream n stomp in a game is embarrassing for you.

Id bet he's lived a far more successful life than this poster... Who is likely alone...again... On Saturday night. Sheesh.
Great post!!

Lots of immature idiots on RR is a reflection of our fan base. It gets worse every year. No wonder several coaches didn’t want to coach here. Who could blame them?
I shake my head and wonder if any of these knuckleheads have ever played basketball. It is like the idea that some days you play better than other days never occurs to them. Every great win and we are headed for a national championship, and every bad loss we are a dumpster fire of a program. It would be humorous if it was not so pathetic.

That is troubling to me. They looked like they were finishing up a movie or still watching a play in New York. Meanwhile you've got rabid fans out there HOPING that you're fired up to beat this Auburn team.

This needs gold plated and hung on a wall. That’s exactly right and it is one of my least favorite things about the BBN subculture

And there you are (well, this account and your previous ones) excusing every loss with "every team has bad games". Bet you said that when WV blanked us from deep, huh?

I have never had a previous account, so you are wrong there. And note I actually use my real name, unlike some of the cowards at their keyboards.

Are you off the bandwagon for good this time? You’re one of the ones who likes to hop on after every win and hop off after every loss. If you’re off the wagon for good this time, great, just don’t try hopping back on when we win another big game

There are things I like about Coach Pope. There are others that are a concern that I really don't know if it's talent or system.

I've supported his roster subs more than many, but there some times that....well...I don't know.
The defense? Where is the difference between talent and desire? I really don't know. Seems we could switch to zone sometimes...but maybe that's an ability thing too. I'm not around the guys every day...so it's hard to say. It's going to have to get better somehow in years ahead. Scheme or talent...gotta happen.
This is a crazy year. In too many ways. I've kind of gone along with the want to see a run in three years crowd, but his contract (so far) is five.

If there isn't something to hang his hat on by year 5: conference title, final four or very close...then it'll be time to look elsewhere.

This year gas had some really bad lows along with unexpected highs...and they've been extreme both ways.

And no I really don't care about his past flameouts. It's now and going forward that matter to me

If you want future teams to be Auburn good, donate a lot more money to Club Blue or if you own a business try and contact the SEC to do sponsorships and get some decent officiating.
We supposedly had a treasure chest of NIL funds before this season….. What happened to that money? I know a school can’t directly put into the NIL fund because it’s against the rules but you know all the schools are doing it which leads the to my next point. What happened to the difference in the money that was floated around they were willing to pay a Hurley to come here compared to what they ended up paying Pope. I mean the numbers that they were throwing around was about 10-11 million a year. Pope is making close to 6 million so why couldn’t they push that difference of 4-5 million into the NIL fund by backdoor….. That would surely buy some really good players!

They saved all that money AND raised season ticket prices (at least in my section).

Honestly that’s what it seems like to me it really does seem like Pope was reluctant to spend the money when players were asking for it. My personal opinion if you want to be competitive in today’s basketball environment you better spend the money to buy those type of players. Coaching is only going to get you so far you want to have the horses to back you up! That’s crappy about raising the prices too you’d think they would’ve at least waited to see how it all played out with a new coach before they started raising prices for the fans.

He can't sit there with his hands in his pockets acting like the good mormon.

He has a responsibility to fight for his team and he has absolutely failed at that. Its as bad as the turnover machine we've become. The players are rattled and that falls back on Pope.

He has to do better.
It was a bad game but you can't say Pope has to do better and bring up his religion. You need to take your own advice and do better.

In an NIL world are the resources available really all that much better than what everybody else has? I’m not so sure about that.

Great point. But I was just thinking in general. Maybe we're not the "it" program anymore :(

Just to point out a few things:
1) Oweh fumbles a rebound OOB; Aub hits a 3
2) Oweh then throws lazy ass pass that results in And-one
3) Carr called for phantom foul on 3 point flop, cost us 2 points
4) Butler called for F1, probably one of the worst calls I’ve seen this year, cost us 2 points and possession
5) SOB banks in 2 3’s
Add all that up you get 16 points. None of that is on Pope.
Pretty sure they nailed a 3 right after that BS F1 call.

Year five is more than reasonable but some are miffed that this thrown together, injured team should be 23-6. Laughable. They wont make it through year two, let alone 5, lol.

According to your half brain posts, tomorrow for you . Alot of teams have good players and coaches now, it's only going to keep trending that way too as this game ages. Our delusional and irrational fans need to step back ,and take a big breath, and quit jumping off a cliff . throwing asinine innuendos with losses only escalates the loss to a different level . Get a life
