Pope really seems to reach out to so many kids that we likely don’t pursue to the point of getting a commitment.
IMO - much of this is for relationship building for the portal. We will be taking 2 maybe 3 HS kids per season.
BUT also portal players. Build those relationships and when a kid over performs - they have the relationship started.
IMO this is a reason we also saw him talk to (it seemed) every decent player that hit the portal thus leaving us all trying to figure out who we are getting.
