The US government currently has about 4.6 million active credit cards or credit card accounts on file – more than the total number of federal workers (about 3 million), not including government contractors and active-duty military personnel.
Around 90 million unique transactions were made on the cards in fiscal year 2024, running up about $40 billion in bills for the federal government, according to DOGE, which cited publicly available GSA data.
“DOGE is working w/ the agencies to simplify the program and reduce admin costs,” the group wrote on X last week.
The order includes exceptions for “any credit cards held by employees engaged in, or charges related to employees utilizing such credit cards for, disaster relief or natural disaster response benefits or operations or other critical services” as determined by the agency heads in consultation with DOGE.
Credit cards, linked to major banks, are issued to federal employees in more than 250 federal agencies and Native American tribal governments in order to “make purchases on behalf of the federal government in support of their agency’s mission,” according to GSA.
For decades, the federal government has been plagued with scandals involving the use of taxpayer-funded credit cards.
Over the years, government watchdogs have found everything from adult entertainment to Lego toys to lavish, multi-course meals being charged to taxpayers.
DOGE: After 8 days, ~24,000 cards have been de-activated, which will likely double by end of week.

I have mixed feelings on the Medicaid issue. IOW, I don't think the 29 year old video game player is the one that is putting a major strain on the system, and I'm afraid that if you pull that, that you might be taking much needed mental health resources from a large group of the population that needs it most. "sending them back to work" isn't going to, in most cases, provide them with any decent healthcare at all.

It is absolutely absurd to me, that deficit spending is, rather, "ever WAS" considered "Constitutional" in the first place.
I know they reduced funding but was there changes to who qualified?
I see the machine pushing social media and msm stories that say over 400k Kentuckians will lose Medicaid. I just assume its just another concerted, coordinated attack.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure. I don't know anyone in that situation, which is no excuse. I need to become more informed on that.
A tangent to that, or rather, a helpful means to that end, IMO would be to open an easier pathway for non-violent felons to be able to get those convictions expunged. I DO know several young men/women that have turned their lives around but the major thing holding them back are their criminal records. It is damn near impossible for them to obtain employment that offers actual benefits because of their past. This hurts ALL of us.

I hate when people say "non-violent" felons.....was it a felony or misdemeanor? Steal a car or a pack of smokes? Once or more on their record? Decisions have consequences, and yes, there are those that have "turned their life around", and yes, there are programs for those who can be contributing citizens. They may not be on your law firm, but there are numerous blue collar opportunities if they truly meet the criteria. And it definitely doesn't hurt "ALL of us".
If they don’t change qualifications but change funding levels is it just a first come first serve basis until the money runs out later in the year.

Thing about it is that most of these types are unemployable. They will have to be trained to do work, not just trained in a specialty type of work, but just trained to do actual work because they have zero ethic or skills.
Oh, you think they are going to do ag work like the Mexicans? LOL. Hell no. That is hard assed work. I know because I did it growing up. That kind of work will break these types of people literally. They will need medical coverage to rehab their broken bodies. Besides, I wouldn't trust them around farm equipment.

I will say one more thing and shut up. I'm not sure that ERs can handle an extra influx of uninsured people. They are already jammed up to the max. UK's ER is a nightmare. Take away Medicaid and you might see them collapse.

I'm speaking specifically about felonies. What programs are out there? It's my understanding that currently, you need to retain a lawyer if you hope to have any success in the expungement process. I would imagine that could be problematic.
And yes, if there is a segment of our population that is being held back from obtaining meaningful/living wage employment because of a convoluted process, then it DOES hurt the rest of us.
