Cool. Crossing the border illegally is a felony. Smuggling, harboring or conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants is also a felony. Federal laws that have been on the books for decades.
Penalties for crossing the border illegally and/or residing in the US illegally…
- 1st offense 6 months jail and deported
- 2nd offense 2 years and deported
- Re-entry after 3 or more misdemeanors is 10 years then deported
- Re-entry after an aggravated felony is 20 years then deported
There are 12 million illegal aliens that fit the first two categories. Thousands who fit the last two categories. Trump is such a humanitarian that he is willing to give them a pass on the jail time and skip straight to the deportation.
You should also be in favor of prosecuting those who harbor illegal aliens…including government officials such as mayors & governors. “Harboring” falls under the smuggling category.
Straight from the Fed web site…
In addition to harboring illegal immigrants, you can also be charged with human smuggling for aiding and abetting the harboring of illegal immigrants or conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants. The punishments for an alien smuggling charge are as follows:
- If you do not act for profit, you can be fined and imprisoned for up to five years.
- If you act for profit, you can be fined and imprisoned for up to ten years.
