Yeah , you can change SS and Medicare but not for people already on it. Or even those too close to getting it that they can't make necessary changes to compensate.

And when those without SS begin to retire and have saved a total of $20,000 in their 401Ks what will be your plan? We are already seeing plenty of this which is why we have 70 and 80 yr olds bagging groceries at Kroger...because they have SS and nothing else.
Without Medicare, what will you do when these people show up in hospital ERs needing healthcare? You going to throw them back out on the streets?

Lol on brother in law. Started late on 401K not much going on there, doing a rush build. Paid a lot out on parents who did not prepare (tens of thousands over the years) and an ex wife in same period which with children came out as much as parents. Only positives for me is military retirement, working on civil service retirement and then SS. Will not be rich but, wife works and together right now we gross right at 100k per year and with the afore mention pensions will be about the same when retired.

So what won the Freedom Caucus over? They got their way on no preexisting coverage, but only if they, and their staffs, are exempt and get to keep preexisting coverage. Basically, what's good enough for their constituents, isn't good enough for them.

The new Republican amendment, introduced Tuesday night, would allow states to waive out of Obamacare’s ban on preexisting conditions. This means that insurers could once again, under certain circumstances, charge sick people higher premiums than healthy people.

Republican legislators liked this policy well enough to offer it in a new amendment. They do not, however, seem to like it enough to have it apply to themselves and their staff. A spokesperson for Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), who authored this amendment, confirmed this was the case: Members of Congress and their staff would get the guarantee of keeping these Obamacare regulations.

There ARE no right answers you can provide to a group like that
their demands are PROGRESSIVE because Karl Marx specifically elaborated at great length about how Socialism is designed to PROGRESS to Communism and Communism ultimately will PROGRESS to -- a period where government is no longer needed ---

He also talked about how -- along the way they might have to use coercion, violence or terror.......ALSO there's another quote I always though was telling with the Left that Leans to Team Marx --- he noted that INEQUALITIES may have to be foisted on people (you can find the examples) in order to ensure that INEQUALITIES will no longer exist.

Dude I get lost in parking lots and can NOT process mental images dealing with spatial relationships .....struggle with time and distance.....but I've spent 20 years of literally reading history book after history book and then taking a break to filter in classic literature -- so my light reading was Aldous Huxley and Charles Dickens

So that's a strong area for me --- but then I spent 5 years striding Russian history (pre/post revolution), their literature (Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, Turgenev, Marx and then Solzhenitsyn) - I also spent 19 months learning to SPEAK RUSSIAN (had a Ukrainian design engineer at my plant and worked with him and audio discs) --- so I made a lot of effort to learn more and stay in tune with some of this stuff because I believe it's BECOMING PREDICTABLE --- not 100% --- but at times -- IT IS

Anyhow -- once I read "The Gulag Archipelago" (took a year 1/2 to finish all 3 volumes) -- it changed me

I STOPPED reading for a year

and without thinking about it......it all suddenly started COMING OUT

The BLOG has 80 articles written in 3 months
My book has a methodology and limitations section to explain how it will be assembled OBJECTIVELY (copying standards used at CDC for peer reviewed publications)

The outline is in first draft form

I worked on the first part of the "forward" today and some of the founding hypothesis of the book as well

I have a literary agent that will be reviewing the draft in Nov

maybe they'll move it
maybe they'll laugh

but I'm doing this because it's my "ONE LITTLE THING" --- it's my role in this (at least for now)

I was away for a while -- and I really can't talk about some of the things I Was doing......BUT I found my way onto the Dark Net for a year.........things got weird

And I didn't understand how my google account -- which I hadn't been using
was now matched to my old account on TCP
so I had to pick a new handle


as I recall it MADE me take the name I was using for GMAIL

which is ok -- because I LIKE that name


so I was just more confused and unfocused than anything
his place has helped keep me de-stress over the year

-it baffles me that folks think we have a revenue problem. Budgeting is based on income not wants/needs.

-i have had much experience in capital projects for local/state/federal over the last 25 years. The waste is staggering. "It is in our budget so we may as well spend it"...gild the lily in lieu of allocation of exess funds for other projects (or...gasp! Return the cash to taxpayers). The gov. pm's/purchasers arent terrible people...most are pretty neat folks...the system is just f'ed and needs to be completely overhauled. This is just one tiny area of state waste.

The Captain of one of the ships I was on handled it well. I cannot remember the numbers but it was a tidy sum as I understand it.

Well, the command had $XXXX left from one of the budgets for the ship. Lets just say pens and pencils for arguments sake. The Captain offered up to the powers that be to "return" 50% of the left over money and we got to use the other 50% on going back out to sea for more training exercises. The only thing he supposedly asked for was to not have the budget reduced for the next year.

I hated that S.O.B. but I did like that idea. It was usually the old "use it or lose it" type mentality.

edit to add: at least that was the story that went around of how we "got" to go make holes in the water at an unplanned time.

1. I will never be able to draw Social Security though I have and still pay into it;
752. Social Security has always depended on one generation supporting the next.
2. Last I read, there was approximately $2.75 trillion in SS coffers. As I understand it, that is still enough to cover retirees for the next 20 years or so. At that point, SS will depend on revenues. Thus the importance of guys like Pres. Trump recognizing the need to put people to work.
3. SS was not intended to be a retirement plan...just a supplement. No doubt benefits will have to be reduced in the future unless we have more workers paying.

As for medicare....as far as I'm concerned, cut it, but I don't have as much problem with medicare as I do with medicaid. Cut medicaid. It's one thing to take care of our elders who can no longer work....it's another to provide 100% medical coverage for people that could be working but CHOOSE not to do so.

Cut food stamps back to a level sufficient to sustain life. Stop giving tax "refunds" to low income people that exceed the amount of taxes they actually paid.

Got a great business idea for you... you get to identify fraud and waste and get to keep everything you recover. BUT, you have to spend the money it takes to identify and recover it.
