100%The revisionist history about Pitino on here has always been comical. After 1995, he was being heavily criticized that he couldn’t close the deal and win a NCAA title. Then he had a magical run in 1996 and had a hell of a run in 1997. He was a really good coach at UK but not the deity a lot of people think he was. Then he went to UL and was completely abused by Cal year after year. And at UL, he only made it to the second weekend of the NCAA 6 out of 12 years- and two of those years were vacated for cheating. Cal also ended Rick’s season in the NCAA Tournament twice in the years Pitino made it past the first weekend. And this coming from someone who is no fan of Cal- I have wanted him gone for a while.
This is such a well written response, you nailed it. People forget the only time Pitino won the title he had by far the most talented roster in the country.
