Ben Howland was out of coaching but wanted back in.

This was April 2014.

The job at
Tennessee was open. Same story at Missouri.

And the California native with three Final Fours on his resume would've taken either job if offered. He tried to get involved at both places. But for reasons I'll never understand even if I live to be a million years old, Tennessee and Missouri each passed. And, at this point, that looks like the best thing to ever happen to Mississippi State.

"[Ben Howland has] proven what he can do," Schnider Herard, a consensus top-50 national recruit in the Class of 2016,
told Scout.com's Evan Daniels on Wednesday, a few moments after publicly committing to Mississippi State. "He's been to the NCAA Tournament and has guys in the [NBA]. Everyone knows he's a great coach."

Howland ain't garbage I'll tell you that! Westbrook is a nice recruiting chip to have. Russell is badass. Kevin Love too. He can recruit and schools fyuked up passing him up . 3 final fours in a row. If Howland has talent he can win. This new guy helps.

I don't agree with this at all. I know Howland ain't a bad coach. The guy can coach and if a school leaves him alone and let's him do his thing, he can be successful. He's the type of coach I can never fully get behind. Yeah, he will win games and Always Have his team's in the tourney, but with this guy, average is the best you can ever hope for. He had plenty of time at UCLA and made final fours, but near the end, his talent went elsewhere and he has to have top talent to win. It's not like his Xs and Is are the best in the nation.
