Pacers reach NBA in-season tournament final. Oscar Tshiebwe guaranteed at least 100k

OT. What in hell is up with the NBA floors?

BOT: good for Oscar. Hoping he gets his shot to show he belongs. Keep looking at box scores since he’s called up but so far only DNP’s.

Rick Carlisle is the Pacers coach and he just won't play ANY rookie unless he has to...

So so happy for Oscar..

Pacers vs Lakers in finals... LOL.. not sure what this says about this in season tournament

This in season tournament has been far more entertaining than expected. I would’ve had no idea that the Pacers were such a fun team if it weren’t for this tourney.

Beats the hell out of the normal midseason slog that December NBA games were in past seasons.

I watched some of the Laker game last night and with that floor it was hard to watch.

I typically don't watch much NBA, but this season I've found myself watching some Pacers. Fun team to watch. Good energy and buzz with this squad.
Dont watch much NBA but the Pacers are my hometown team and Tyrese may be the best PG I've ever seen play. Guy will have 10+ assists with 0 turnovers. Its absurd numbers. Not to mention he puts up lots of points too.

Pacers need to find a second star to go with him though.

I still don’t understand how the Lakers got in the tournament and the Timberwolves didn’t with the best record in the league.

Yeah, there's lots of things I don't understand about this tourney. First and foremost being, why do people care about an in-season tournament? Other than the players that stand to win a few extra bucks, of course.

Also dont forget Isaiah Jackson is with the Pacers too.
I think IJ might be the most quickly forgotten successful UK player ever.

About the only guy on that miserable 2021 UK team who met expectations …yet I still had to pause to remember who he was when I read your post.

One of the biggest complaints the NBA has faced in recent years is that its regular season is too long and monotonous …and the middle part too meaningless. So they did this to try to spice things up.

And it seems to be working, mainly because the players have bought in. They’re playing hard, lots of emotion from the bench, acting like they really care. It’s certainly been more entertaining than typical December games from the past.

Couldn't agree more. All games except the Lakers-Pels last night have been great. And that was because Lakers started out hitting every shot and Pelicans couldn't throw it in the ocean. They fell way behind and appear to just quit. Lebron is still the best player in the League when healthy. Amazing to see someone still be the fastest, quickest, strongest, smartest, and play the hardest at age 39. He just broke the Pelicans will last night. You could see it on their faces. We can't win when he is playing at the top of his game like this.

I started a thread awhile back that the NCAA could do the exact same thing with let’s say the top 30 teams.

I'm not an NBA guy, but these games have been some great basketball. You can tell the players have taken it seriously. Almost a game 7 type feel to them. Def a step up from normal regular season NBA.

Any clue why the floors look like something that belongs in a knock off league? Maybe that’s what the nba is now. Sure as hell not basketball.

I wouldn't say I care about the tournament. I only brought it up because I was happy to see that Oscar was gonna get some extra spending money. Also nice to see IJ get a piece of the pot too.

All the old jokes I've heard from haters over the years come to mind. "Kentucky players take a pay cut when they go NBA". Seems like Oscar did.

Seems like an odd time to post this take. He was just called up to an NBA team that’s a hot thing at the moment. Oscar’s actually doing better than many predicted for him when he left UK …so why the negative spin?

I've never said a negative thing about Oscar in my life. Good for him making a pro roster. I hope he blows up in the league and lives his dream.
How is pointing out that he took a pay cut to do it negative?

Very happy that Big O benefits from this. Watching the Pacers play though… I wonder how much he fits their style. Their pace of play is ridiculous and very perimeter oriented. I wonder if he will eventually get traded to a team his style molds better with sometime in the near future.

The Pacers are very young and a fun watch!

Those shooters need somebody to rebound for them.

I think he fits their roster well. There’s no pressure on him to produce offensively with the scoring punch that team already has. And he provides a rebounding need that they might otherwise lack.

I just don’t know if he can break into the playing rotation. But, if not, oh well … just being on an NBA roster is pretty damn cool.

Special floors for the in season tournament. Not permanent, usually the floor looks like what you'd expect a basketball court to look like.

They did this like a soccer tournament with a group stage before knockout round. 3 groups per conference, then teams that win their group (and the top 2nd place) move on to knockout round. Timberwolves came in second in their group with a 3-1 group stage record, lose tiebreaker (point differential) to Suns who were 2nd in their group. Lakers won their group.

I’ve seen no evidence that he took a pay cut. What exactly are you basing that claim on?

It just seemed like a strange time to drop a post suggesting he’d have been better off staying at UK. Maybe if he was struggling in the G-League, but instead he kicked ass in the G-League and immediately got called up to the NBA. Looks to me like Oscar is killing it right now.
