Our ole buddy Bobby Portis

Yahoo article said Portis hit Mirotic with a cheap shot. Not a good look at all.

Here’s Bulls release on Mirotic/Portis altercation:

One can only hope that the Bulls exercise some common sense and waive Portis IF he did, in fact, suckerpunch Mirotic. I can always appreciate good competition, but not when it turns into assault and battery.

I’m kneeling for Mirotic. Let’s see what happens. Jemele will say that Portis was “forced to do it to protect his family.” Wilbon will say, “it’s Chicago, my boy Jordan was a fighter, Bobby’s gotta feed his kids.” Nolan Richardson will say “that’s what me and Mike taught.” Hopefully the DA will see a crime was committed and prosecute it justly. #kneelforknikola

Uh, so? Mirotic ended up in the hospital with a concussion and several broken bones in his face. He will need surgery. Portis will likely get charged with assault and is facing a big suspension. I hope he gets cut. Doubtful though, because people.

Chicago Bulls forward Nikola Mirotic is out indefinitely after suffering fractures to his upper jaw and a concussion in an altercation with teammate Bobby Portis at practice Tuesday.

The players had been talking trash to one another in practice, jawing back and forth before those exchanges escalated into a physical encounter, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Mirotic charged at Portis twice before Portis threw a punch and connected with Mirotic's face, league sources said. Mirotic dropped to the floor and laid there for several minutes before getting up, league sources said.

Mirotic was taken to the hospital and released later Tuesday, sources said.

The Bulls announced that surgery is likely for Mirotic.

The Vertical first reported news of the altercation.

In a statement, the Bulls said they are evaluating disciplinary action.

Bulls general manager Gar Forman was in the practice and witnessed the altercation, league sources said.

Mirotic, 26, averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, and was expected to start for Chicago this season. He signed a two-year deal with $12.5 million guaranteed this season to stay with the Bulls.

Portis, 22, averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds last season, and was battling Mirotic for the team's starting power forward spot.

Chicago opens the season Thursday night in Toronto.

HOW ABOUT YAHOO’S account?

Mirotic was taken to the hospital Tuesday after their shoving altercation during practice ended with an alleged surprise punch from Portis to Mirotic’s face, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Mirotic is undergoing tests, but is expected to be out for the foreseeable future, league sources said.

“SURPRISE PUNCH.” That equals BITCH move. Neither of us were there but cmon.

Portis is far from a franchise player.. Im not sure his career survives this. He just compromised two players before the season started.

Portis will ultimately be bounced from Chicago in all likelihood, but will catch on with some other team.

I'm sure crazy eyes sucker punched him from the side or something, too bad he don't realize that's gonna cost him big time.

It’s not political, ITS CRIMINAL. Tell Nikola’s family that this discussion is not merited.

Exactly. What would happen if I struck you in such a way and caused that amount of damage?

Police, jail, and immediate charges filed. Because it is illegal.

As a Bulls fan, I had very low expectations going into the season. This pretty much sets the tone of what to expect from hear on out.

Wait until the info comes out...some have reported he used some serious racial slurs against Portis...like, really bad.

In any other walk of life he would be arrested. If I did this at my office I would certainly be taken to jail.

Why is he not being charged/arrested?

Same reason hockey players aren't arrested when they get into fights and punch one another in the face repeatedly.
