Our guy KAT is starting to do big things in the NBA

dude just isn't a high level rebounder for whatever reason... at least what you'd want from your center.

15 boards for Okafor tonight with Noel sitting out. Guess he can rebound when feels like it.

KAT with another huge game. 17 points (5-7 FG, 7-8 FT), 12 rebounds, 3 blocks (all 3 blocks came in the last 2 minutes or so of the game). Made a lot of plays in the clutch along with Wiggins. Those two will be a dangerous, dangerous duo in the very near future. Pulled out a big win against the Atlanta Hawks on the road.

That's now 4 double-doubles in his first 6 games. What other rookies have done that? I'm curious.

What is also impressive for someone so young yet so talented is that he doesn't force things. Tonight I think he played the second most minutes behind Wiggins, yet he only took 7 shots, less than a 1/3 the number of shots Wiggins took (who played great tonight, btw). That shows a lot of patience and intelligence for someone that would be a sophomore in college.

Freshman, if he hadn't reclassified.

He also shot atrociously for a big man. Last I saw he was 9/25. Eek.

Towns is so superior it is not even funny. I'm still pissed my Lakers took Russell over Okafor though.

Well, he turns 20 this weekend, so by age he should be a sophomore in college.
Just curious how old you are? Asking because so many kids start school late anymore. Lots of kids graduating at 19 now.

But I appreciate your post. Didn't realize he was turning 20 already. Sophomore age to me as well

I'm a Laker fan. I'm not bothered by the Russell over Okafor pick. At this point, I hope Russell becomes what they think he will.

I wondered if Mudiay might not have been a better pick. Porzingas is looking strong so far. Trading down for Johnson or Winslow would have been fine.

I don't think we will know how good the Russell pick was for about 3 years. I'm reminded of how fast RP pulled the plug on Billups, who was eventually an MVP. I don't think Byron Scott is the right coach for Russell's development.

He's definitely in good company with those 2 in terms of his start. I kind of expect a lot of rookies to struggle at first, but clearly he is not. We're only a few games into his career, but it certainly appears the T-wolves made one very smart decision to draft KAT. Let's hope it continues, and in a few short seasons he's being mentioned in the same conversation as AD. More dear to my heart it's results like this that give Cal huge credibility in his ability to develop young player's quickly. That can only help future recruiting even if it wasn't enough to get Giles away from Duke. Meh, that was an uphill battle from the start. In terms of other picks I sure hope the Nugget's have finally managed to make another great draft pick. They really haven't done so since they picked 'Melo.

To me the NBA is like baseball. If you have a rooting interest, you can watch it. If it's two teams you don't care about, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I am 34. I always thought kids turned 18 their senior year of high school and then college was 19, 20, 21, and 22. I assume that is still the norm, though there are obviously a ton of exceptions in both directions.

Used to be that way. My kids are in HS and I was amazed at the number of kids turning 16 in spring of freshman year or summer before sophomore.

Okafor finally got his first double-double last night, and his team lost, and as was noted, Nerlens didn't play. Towns has a double-double in every game so far, and his team is winning.

So so glad KAT ended up in Minnesota. Philly is still a dumpster fire.

It's hard to measure the success of an individual by the success of the team in the NBA, Just look at Anthony Davis this year. Towns is having a terrific year so far though and should be the early candidate for ROY, though he has not had a double double every game as you stated.

KAT right now is run away ROY. His numbers are off the charts impressive. He had two subpar games, which is to be expected.

I wonder if he can really keep this up at such a young age. This is pretty absurd performance for a rookie.

Some KAT stats:

9th in the NBA in Rebounding
6th in FT% (Min 3 game)
4th in Blocks
2nd in FG% Against among Centers, only behind Gobert
Top 10 in Def Rating
