OT: Twitter in Absolute Shambles

There was a time they did actual invesyigative journalism and wrote interesting stories, weren’t just rushing to the camera and X feed as quickly as possible to be the first to say the same thing everyone else is saying.

Develop sources. Give an interesting perspective. Root out corruption. Etc. X didn’t kill journalism, the “journalists” did.

This makes sense @Bill Cosby ! I forgot about the investigative part as well.

What exactly does a journalist actually do in an environment where citizens film all the news as it happens (and then give it to the news sites), and people can self report news in X, FB, etc? Oh also, AI can do writing for the few that can't write well.
They act as self important whores for whoever gives them access/talking points. These people never actually break stories or do investigative pieces. They simply say whatever is given to them.

I was around this life but it wasn’t regarding politics. Today’s corporate press are no different than Instagram influencers, really.

This makes sense @Bill Cosby ! I forgot about the investigative part as well.
These places scrapped their long term investigative reporting budget in favor of emotional opinion piece trash and “breaking news.”

In the early 2000s, Craigslist/internet killed newspapers by taking their classified ads revenue. Newspapers/media outlets struggle so much that they got acquired by large media conglomerates who simply use the bylines and TV time to push the agendas of the money backers. It’s a huge conflict of interest in how they report as the public is no longer their actual money source and they simply will say whatever their masters want now.

God I so hope this happens. Replace these scumbags and get a working media in there. It's the right thing to do for the people of America. Do it without hesitation!

It's not eradicated, but as Elon says, the tide has turned against the malignant pRoGrEsSiVe religious Woke Mind Virus. It can't thrive on it's own merits since it has none. It must be forced.

Much credit goes to Free Speech on X.

Just saw that our local university (ISU) abolished all DEI shit departments and HR procedures and scrubbed all mention of woke initiatives from their website. With demo☭rats no longer empowered to push it, look for it to diminish nationwide after Jan 20th. It's a mandate from the American people. Thankfully most don't accept this garbage.

Shame on everyone who supports or foolishly accepts this destructive anti-American society destroying ideology, and GFY.

DEI garbage, trans garbage, it’s companies being shaken down to do this and them implementing this when they think it’s super popular/approved. They switch up if it hurts the bottom line.

In the last handful of years, we’ve watched the left threaten your livelihood over a jab (and harass you every day with testing if you didn’t do it), discriminate against whites in job hires and Asians/whites in college admissions (predates five years), teach anti-white bigotry in corporate and classroom training, push trans crap to elementary school students, drag queen story hour and events to kids, got the feds and AG to spy on upset parents, pronouns idiocy, let guys win women’s sports, and thought it was okay to allow the government a backdoor portal into social media to silence those who challenged them.

The fact that companies didn’t even hesitate to go along with the above insanity is madness.

But the brains of Gen Z are cooked as are a lot of people’s. You can’t just turn that craziness off. It’s out of the box. It’s just maybe not everyone will oblige it now. But you can’t brainwash and dehumanize and think there’s no consequences.

X is one of many media platforms that have diversified the news landscape. The transition was well underway before Elon Musk. Musk has undoubtedly given his own spin to it, but if we are being honest, it was Jack Dorsey who actually built Twitter. Or did we forget about that time that entire revolution took place in Egypt due to Twitter?

Im actually all for the decoupling from what many term the "MSM". I'm a fan of democratized news, but no...Elon did not create that.

Seems to me he just simply stopped censoring as much and allowed multiple viewpoints, which unfortunately seems almost the exception and not the norm anymore.

I mean, to be fair, he's definitely allowed more of the high profile blue cbeckmarks back on. I have doubts that the actual amount of bans has decreased though.

It's his platform though. He can do what he wants. I have no problem with that. The idea I always thought was laughable that Twitter is so big and so important that it must be regulated by politicians. Like, what are we talking about?

I believe there was proof of government vetting and censorship of information, especially pertaining to public health, which imo is very problematic. So I’m happy that seems to have been ended.

Has that changed though? The freaking owner of X is part of the federal government. lol

Ok.

Well that has nothing to do with “journalists” killing journalism, whether Dorsey founded X or Elon changed it.

Who do you feel is being censored right now? You could be right, just curious whose you think is being silenced currently?

I don't believe Twitter enforcing it's terms of service is any more censorship than Rivals blacklisting someone. I don't consider that censorship because we have a free market. My view on that doesn't change just because Twitter is a behemoth in terms of usage.

Today we see people on the left moving to BlueSky, for instance. That's how free markets should work. May the best man win, etc. Also, the amount of blacklisted people is still pretty lengthy under Musk. It's just that no one gives a shit. I never cared in the first place, honestly.

I disagree with that categorization though. I don't think journalism is dead at all. I think it has evolved in light of new accessible mediums.

I think ESPN is a great example of this actually. ESPN used to hold it's viewers captive because it had a monopoly on sports news. After Kentucky games, my first instinct is not to watch ESPN, but Field of 68, Southeastern 16, Sleepers, Aaron Torres or <insert your flavor here> on YouTube. I may go to X for reactions or to get a pulse of fans. But I don't care anymore if we are featured on Sports Center.

That is a good thing. Competition is a good thing. The legacy media should have that competition.

It bothered me to hear the US government was using how people get their information to censor and control narratives. Zuckerberg had some pretty powerful comments on how he regrets the government censorship they were doing on Facebook. I just don’t agree with that. I’m surprised that’s not a universallly agreed on thought?

If this force was so coercive, how did Elon Musk opt out of this force? How is Mark Zuckerberg allowed to say that at all?

It's indicated the US Government forced censorship of social media. That's incorrect. The companies willfully obliged & wanted that involvement...because they are tech titans and government can be their friend.

I feel you’re arguing against something nobody said? Where did I say the government forced anything in my posts? I said I’m glad that it doesn’t seem to be happening on Twitter anymore, which I think is a good thing. I’m completely baffled how what I’m saying is controversial? There was clear proof the government was colluding with Twitter to censor COVID information. Can you argue that the government was in a way forcing these things by applying the threat of litigation or regulations on these companies if they didn’t comply? Maybe I guess, but that’s another argument no one is making.

My point is that it's not government censorship when the company agrees with the premise of the government. There is clear proof right now that Twitter is colluding with the federal government. Like, it's right in front of you and not a conspiracy.

Whether you agree or not, Twitter and the like are news sources nowadays, and I don’t think that they should be used as conduits or vehicles of what the government wants you to know/think without being transparent about it. An uninformed populace is not a good thing, and a government colluding with Twitter (for example) to censor or promote a narrative without anyone knowing they are doing it is bad. I don’t really see why this is controversial. MY point is that I wish we had an unbiased, transparent news source to listen to, which we don’t. Which is f*cking awful.

Not sure you're reading my posts. I said that's a good thing. There is no such thing as an unbiased news source though. It's never existed. It never will. Hhumans are human. The entire premise of a free media is that by having a diversity of news sources that the public can ascertain the best picture of reality. It's literally assumed that speech is biased.

Also, X right now is literalyl a conduit for the government. Like literally, it's never been more aligned with government.

You keep saying this, what are you referring to? Because Musk owns it and will be working with the new administration? How does that make the entire platform a conduit?

And I also don’t think we should give up on the need for an unbiased news source.

Because Elon was willing to overpay by billions to acquire Twitter and then forego billions in ad revenue blackmail to do an investigation and expose the WH and government intel agencies control of Twitter censoring/shadow banning/outright banning to support the disgusting demo☭rat agenda including destroying political opponents (even the sitting president), election interference, Covid agenda, and everything against the Woke religion that the demo☭rats use to divide and destroy the country for their power grab. It helped that the Twitter staff were Woke shit4brains willing to comply to a large degree, but even they had reservations about being forced by threats to do the government's bidding. Read the f**king Twitter files for God's sake.

As already stated and what should be obvious to anyone but a brainwashed moron, the MSM does no journalism. They are paid to push lying narratives that support demo☭rat agendas. The establishment gov need full control of all media to seal their power over the people. They almost had that.

This is NOT simple free market processes like you're trying to use to justify it. So just STFU with that revisionist bullshit.

I mean, I studied journalism in college. At one point I wanted to go into print journalism but opted into a tech route in my life (bullet dodged). Humans having bias is pretty much Journalism 101. I really agree with the founders as it pertains to free speech. The key is diversity of sources. Twitter is a source that encapsulates many, but there are thousands upon thousands of sources and humans can opt out of any of them.

Immediately going back to the country's founding, we had politicians of high notoriety releasing newsletters under pseudonyms. Not that much has changed if you think about it.

In terms of collusion, yes... I mean, it's so obvious that we can't even debate it. You have a man who can control who sees what on Twitter, who has over 250 million followers, who can force his message into any stream on the platform....and he's literally part of the US Federal Government. Like it's so out in the open and front of you that it's not conspiracy...... I guess on the bright side, it's transparent...but wow

Democrats even tried to install a "Ministry of Truth" department to outright control "disinformation" (free speech). That is anything that does not fit their agenda. Much easier than using back channels and agency portals behind the scenes. Remember that? Goebbels would be proud.

Yeah, I don't believe that Democrats tried to install anything called a "Ministry of Truth", but I do think disinformation is a problem. I think it should be taught in schools and I think people should seek credibile sources.

Should it be illegal? Nope. Still isn't. You're making shit up

I think they called it the Disinformation Governance Board. Same GD thing. Look it up!

Because you don't believe facts does not make you have any basis for a valid argument. It's like you play dumb (or maybe you are) so people will waste time trying to educate lefties who dgaf and had their head up their ass the past few years.

X allows all legal viewpoints. That's called Free Speech. Elon implemented Community Notes to help with false claims.

Communication can be messy and isn't perfect at first glance. Ideas must be discussed, hashed out, and verified in the light of Free Speech. It's a founding Enlightenment principle of our country that apparently some of you forgot or more likely never learned. You want perfect, pick a fundy religion and accept the brainwashing. Pick pRoGrEsSiVe to be politically correct.

The thing you utterly FAIL to comprehend is that communication can be simplified by authoritarian control, but it will not lead to truth or any free thinking public consensus on issues. Just whatever those in power want it to be.

GD I can't believe we have to even go over all this.

Okay, now you're at least half ass attempting to be factual, but you're still being misleading to what it was.

The organization was started under the Trump administration as part of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in 2018. It was also abandoned under the Biden Administration.

The board's stated function was to protect national security by disseminating guidance to DHS agencies on combating misinformation, malinformation, and disinformation that threatens the security of the homeland. Specific problem areas mentioned by the DHS included false information propagated by human smugglers encouraging migrants to surge to the Mexico–United States border, as well as Russian-state disinformation on election interference and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1][2][3]

But what is it that you're arguing? A defunct organization that was abandoned under a Democrat President. What is your point? It failed. It also had no regulatory authority.

The rest of your post is non-sense. You clearly aren't reading what I'm writing but want you want to think Im writing. It's cognitive dissonance.

False! Stop making shit up.

It was started in 2022 under Biden to control the leftist narratives. That Psaki spin is bullshit to help justify it.

WRONG. have you talked or interacted with Musk before? I have. He got stuck buying it, which he didn't want to do. An emergent phenomenon is he's built twitter into a strictly better business than Dorsey was able to do. All of the endpoints with twitter were well navigated by musk and his team (including using the data to start an AI company). None of it was premeditated.

I won't argue with this. I remember he tried to negotiate a reduced price to account for the numerous bots. I'm just glad he bought it and wish him nothing but success.
