And the advice from our service men here is being passed on to him
He’ll be going to Ft Lost in the Woods too

He truly believes this is his calling

I know this thread will probably get moved, but I wanted to go ahead and share this news with my Big Blue family

Earlier today, my eldest son qualified at MEPS and was sworn into the National Guard. He will be leaving for boot camp in August, then will be doing his MOS in vehicle transport and maintenance.

Words cannot describe my pride and joy right now.

That is what I was going to ask you, Basic and AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at the same place. My primary job at FT. Sill OK is setting up transportation for BCT graduates to AIT. Sending quite a few to Leonard Wood this weekend.

Lost -in-the-Woods looks and feels like S.E. Kentucky. Daughter and her husband lived there while he was in Captain's course. Not a real bad drive from where you live when you go for graduation.

I’m not sure if both will be in the same place. His MOS is MM88.

It’s only about 6 and a half hours from where his dad and I live. He and his wife live in Campbellsville
He’ll be glad to know that

You probably mean 88M. I send a lot of those to Leonard Wood. You plan on going to the graduation when it happens? If so, check on requirements to get on post. Some drivers license will get you on most post however, there are others that don't. Oklahoma does not but, they are trying to bring theirs into compliance. Passports should get you on if you have one. I will check with my counterparts at Leonard Wood on Monday (4 day weekend for me so, not working today or tomorrow). There should also be a Face book page for the units to inform you as well.

That's not a bad drive. My son-in-law was stationed at Ft. Drum, NY (15 hrs. from Williamsburg) and Ft. Sam Houston ( 15 hours from Nashville where we are now). Taken those roads multiple times. Did not drive to England while they lived there but did fly over. He recently was stationed in Nashville so they live 5 minutes from our house now. He is currently in Saudi Arabia for the year. Army life can be adventurous.

Congrats. I served in the National Guard for 7 years, as a demolition specialist. Boot camp is tough, but, I look back on it now, and realize that a lot of my character, and values, were formed because of the experience. Tell him to start getting in shape, now, and it will make it easier on him.

Oh he is lol
His wife is making sure he’s eating right and getting exercise. Good thing he works at a lumber yard right now; it’s physical labor

That is a good start, but, it doesn't help your wind, and he will be running, a lot. Miles and miles.

@warrior-cat
Just wanted you to know I got your message but it wouldn’t let me reply to it. Appreciate the info!

My son got to do his first weekend drill last weekend. It kicked his rear pretty good lol
What we can’t figure out is why they have measured him at 5’5” twice
He’s about 5’8”, maybe 1/2 inch more.

Don't know why that is myself. Maybe they don't know how to read a tape.[winking] They used to use the weight scales with the rule stands on them. Not sure what they are using now.

I despise lost in the woods. I have to. I loved my military time and needed basic but I despise Ft. Leonardwood.....always will.

You should ad one of these service flags to your signature and hang one in the front window of your home.
