Caliipari has ruined his legacy
He went from the most innovative coach in College basketball to the most overrated in the span of about 5 years - primarily because he lived off his own coattails and got lazy. He's wasted so much talent, he's mismanaged games, he has mismanaged players, worse he treated players as a commodity that was easily replaceable, separating players with NBA potential from role players without much concern about productivity. The worst of it his he prioritized his legacy over the good of the program and we had an AD that not only allowed it but rewarded him for it. And I haven't even touched on how he holds the fans , the administration and all other critics in contempt.
I'm sorry to say that even if this year turns out to be special, I'll enjoy games like Miami because I am a fan of Kentucky basketball. but I am not a fan of John Calipari. I think the damage he has done to this program is irreversible. I don't think the fans will ever fill up Rupp Arena again and I think even the most die hard fans don't have the connection with Kentucky basketball they used to while new generations of fans don't even have an understanding of what that is.
Calipari is responsible for multiple lows in this program. I don't understand how that is forgivable to any serious longtime UK basketball fan. I don't understand how someone can get excited about Calipari bringing in talent in 2023 and then see us lose to Kansas and now UNC-W and believe he is still capable of being the coach of 2014
and I don't understand why more UK fans don't demand he be held accountable for sticking to a process that has made Kentucky basketball an embarrassment for the last 3 years.
We're in this cycle with him - a promising win, a head scratching loss, hoping that the promise of a better team in March will emerge only to be let down that their improvement wasn't nearly enough to make a difference, then we'll see every player capable of taking us to a title game next year leave and we start over again.
UK basketball is Sisyphus and Kentucky fans have learned that we've given too much to the program to get so little in return
