Now, how’d we feel if this is Cal’s last year

I still need to see if Cal makes the right changes for the whole season. Will he keep following Welch's lead? Will he force the bigs into the roster at the detriment of wins? And can we get AT LEAST a 3-seed and an Elite 8? Those are kind of the minimums.

But if he can, and it seems likely we can get a 2seed and maybe beyond an Elite8.. then maybe we stick with him. He does have a nice class coming in along with promises of a stellar 2015.

You couple that with Scheyer looking suspect, UNC still trying to make Hubert Davis a thing, and Kansas still struggling to recruit.. I think you keep rolling with him. He could have a stretch of years like 2010 to 2015.

Honestly I don't think Cal has somehow changed his entire philosophy. He just adapted to the type of team he has around them.

When you have a guy like Oscar, you play a certain way
When you have shooters, you play a certain way.

I just don't feel like we've had this "type" of team in the past and thus that's the reason we didn't play that way.

I’d let this thing play out. Anything less than a final four and the pitchforks will be out just like always.

If he gets us back then a lot of things will play out. His defenders will be LOUD. Some of the haters will scurry away like cockroaches. Some will claim they always knew he would turn it around. Some will double down and say they still want to see him fired for various reasons. Mostly because he’s a liberal or they are jealous of his success in business. The civil war here is real.

We were great before Cal got here, except for the Tubby years, and we will be great after Cal is gone.-UKBB4ever

Tubby won the same amount of Championships as Hall, Pitino and Cal. Think you meant to say Gillispie.
EXCEPT, Tubby never won one with players recruited exclusively by him.

I was a strong Cal defender up until about halfway through last year. I’d always preferred Cal over Tubby and enjoyed each team’s story (I like the seasons as much or more than the tournaments). By the end of last year, I was about ready to grab the pitchfork with most of the rest of you. I know many of you won’t know exactly how to feel until after the tournaments this year, but that said, right at this moment how do you think you’d feel if this turned out to be Cal’s last year coaching Kentucky?
I would throw one hell of a good riddance party. It is not always about W's and L's, it is about arrogance, dedication to NBA interests over UK's, loss of most of our records, putting our tradition on the back burner as well as some of the lies he has told.

Over recent years, Cal's teams have gotten worse as the season wore on. I really really like how this team is playing right now, but let's pump the brakes on the presumption that old Cal is back. We are only 7 games in. Ask this question at the end of the season. That being said, I never underestimate Cal's ability to eff up a gold truck and I think our program would be better off in the long run if this was his last year. Those who are willing to embrace change will thrive. Those stuck on attempting to relive the glory days, will not in the aggregate.

A lot of you said "who cares about this #1 class I want Cal out these classes never live up to the hype anymore anyway" and you wanted to get rid of Cal at end of last year.
I always maintained we had to keep Cal at least this year for this class but go back and read how many of you didn't want to hear about any #1 class again and how they never live up to the hype.

Safe to say this class indeed is living up to the hype

You didn't answer the question.

Depends, if he can keep up this offense and continue to recruit well, Cal can stay. That win over Miami is our first big win in a while. We needed it.

Im a UK Fan, i could care less who the coach is as long as they win (honorably of course), treat and relate to the fans well, recruit at a high level, are a great ambassador for the Commonwealth and the program, and develop players at high level for both this league and the next.

Did we really get worse as the seasons went on or did we just stop playing games vs popcorn u?

You have NO IDEA whether or not this board is representative of what everyday UK fans think. Zero clue.

Every Cat fan I've talked to is sick of Cal and wants him gone. That's anecdotal, but at least it's evidence rather than unfounded assertions which you are making.
What assertion did I make?

I just said a message board is not representative of the group as a whole.

How is that even remotely controversial?

Most UK fans are thinking this way. It’s not just this board. I do not know one UK fan that is in Cal’s corner and I know quite a few UK fans. Hoping this year is a positive change and turns out like we hope, but we will have to see how the season turns out before I will will say I am glad he is back.
Do you know most UK fans?

I would argue that a message board contains some of the most die hard fans. There are a lot of old geezers and ladies out there that don’t want him fired because that would be mean.

This board contains some pretty knowledgeable basketball fans and some of UKs biggest fans.

The apologists that defend Cal at every turn are the minority.

The Kentucky Basketball program isn't about the coach. If he leaves, I won't miss a moment of sleep.

And there it is, why you don’t wipe the CCC slate clean after a few good weeks. Most coaches prepare their teams. Talent doesn’t mean squat if they aren’t prepared and coached. Pack his bags and get him outta here today.

“Be careful what you wish for”. 🤣🤣🤣

I would hope the next coach could beat UNCW at home. Good heavens what a terrible coach.
Sad thing is this cosch could have, had he just “let them play.” He didn’t, and his genius cost us this game.

It’s okay though, he still believes he is the smartest man in every room he enters.

We aren’t even into SEC play yet….which is when Cal usually starts taking the air out of the ball.

Recruiting is the only positive for Cal. He is an average to below average coach. He is still a turd. I’ll be fine and UK will be fine when he’s gone.
Jamal Mercer spitting truth yet again. Only it happened two weeks before SEC play.

When will anyone listen?

IT IS HIS LAST YEAR IF KENTUCKY LOSES IN THE 1ST OR 2ND ROUND to a UNCW type team or Kansas state. He will retire. Put it in the bank %10000

The offense is doing great and don't we have Welch to thank for that? I know defense still needs work, but how would everyone feel about Welch being Cal's replacement? And Cal did do some major recruiting for this year and next. For me, in a perfect world, right now, right this minute, I would like to see Welch as coach and Cal just doing recruiting. But that's right now.
Does he have any head coaching experience? I’d love for Welch, Coach O, Ulis to stay on as assistants.

We’re not going to get a “home run “ hire
I don’t think there is any one out there that fits that bill from the get go

Let’s hire someone off the radar but eager to prove themself..someone with success at a mid major or even a d2 school. Someone who puts team and university first. I’d be willing and happy to deal with the time it would take to build a solid foundation and rebuild our program

Why not take a chance? We need a change
