Not that easy for an ACC team to leave the conference. Could cost $500 mil.

What you can see is access and relevance slipping away for all but the elites -- and those lucky enough to be in their conferences. Certain ACC schools are freaking out. They are looking at being $50 million per year behind the SEC and Big Ten in annual rights fees.

One industry source said it might take $500 million for a school to exit the ACC given the league's ironclad grant of rights that keeps schools in the conference until 2036. You can buy a lot of superstar coaches, $1 million coordinators, facilities and swag copters for that kind of money.

ACC will get teams poached within 5 years or less. Most likely less. GOR ain’t got shit on Major College Sports. Too much money involved. Way too much.

A contract is a contract. They shot themselves in the foot in the long run just to keep the conference together in the short term. Notre Dame is screwed too. If they join a conference they are contractually obligated to join the ACC until 2036.

Agree in principle but contracts were made to be broken. Think about all of the contracts every single day that get broken. They don’t mean anything really, might have to pay to get out of it, but get out of it, you will(Yoda voice).

The contract was made by the ACC school though. It’s not like some make believe entity that oversees the ACC, the ACC is made up by the schools that are in it. If the biggest schools in the conference want to leave it’ll be up to the smaller schools to sue to try and keep the conference together which will ultimately result in a settlement.

$500 million? Seriously,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Never happen. Maybe 20 to 30 million if that. My guess is that about all the teams in the ACC are more than ready to get out of there ASAP. Duke will be left out because of it being a small private school. I can see NC, Clemson, FSU, maybe Miami, VA. The question will be how to handle VA Tech, NCS. Louisville will once again be king of a small conference along with Memphis. Cincy the same!

Why would they settle for a fraction when they are entitled to all their media rights money until 2036?

That’s the thing though, who is “they”? Is they the actual schools themselves that make up the ACC?
Especially if they will make more and a lot more in other conferences. The ACC won’t be here In 5 years. Same fate as the BIG12 most likely. And PAC 12. It’s the SEC and B10 running ish.

If the top level ACC schools are not able to get out of the GoR by 2036 then they may be so far behind that they never catchup.
