I thought he did ok. No one really good on defense last night though. I can definitely see why Brea didn't get alot of run in our big games though.
There's not many white dudes playing good defense. Even decent defense lol.

Noah and Perry are neither one D1 capable athletes. They may contribute in time, but neither will due to their athleticism.
Last night I thought for a moment we brought Cal in as a defensive specialist.
Defense is simple. Stay between your man and the basket, contest the shot without fouling, and box out until the rebound is secured.

PJ’s kid hit a really tough fall away on him but other than that I thought he played his ass off.
Yeah, I thought so as well. I also agree that his lack of quickness is going to be a problem for him. Hopefully, the training staff will help him trim down a little and add a little quickness.
Honestly, Brea's defense was worse last night. He was beaten on multiple back cuts. Once he was just overplaying the player cutting to the 3pt line, but a couple of other times, he just wasn't going hard to get in position to prevent the pass...he wasn't the only one, but it just happened with him more than once.
He's only playing due to injuries. He's a guy you hope can hit 1 to 2 three pointers in his minutes. That'd about it.
If it was that simple everybody would be a great defensive player
Noah has been playing well in practice. His confidence is apparent so for a freshman you can see him getting better every year. Looks like a high IQ player that battles and can shoot.
Not sure what the OP saw. He was always in correct position away from the ball, never lost his man or got beat back door. Got beat off the dribble once and stripped the guy. A kid hitting a fadeaway 18 footer was the only points he gave up. Got a couple deflections Anytime the ball was shot, he went and found someone to block out. He’s not some lock down perimeter defender but his defense wasn’t an issue last night for the team.

Supposedly neither was Lofton at Tennessee a few years back. I do agree they do not have alot of athleticism but Cal had plenty of athletes but most were players who could not shoot. If they can make the grade they will or as we well know they will transfer.
It’s not, I think we should play that zone to man look way more honestly. It helps hide some deficiencies this team has.
Lofton was honestly a tier above these guys. Out of High school he didn’t get that love but he proved to be a better class of athlete and shooter. I think both could eventually have a role but Noah has the frame to contribute more.
He definitely did ok. Perry was getting killed. Robinson not much better. Noah wasn't guarding point but held his own.
It really is that simple... it doesn't mean it's easy, but it is that simple.
For example, to win a gold medal in the 100m in the Olympics, I simply have to outrun everyone from the starting block to the finish line in a straight line. That is VERY simple... hear the gun, run straight.
However, it isn't easy.
Noah is certainly no less athletic than Ian Schieffelin at Clemson was as a true freshman and he is a much better shooter to play in Pope's system. Noah's ceiling is quite a bit higher than Perry's IMO.

Lofton dominated freshmen year at UT and for 4 years overall. I don't see the comparisons so far.
Lofton was flat out one of the best shooters I've seen high school or college. It is unfair to compare Perry and Noah to Lofton out of high school because the game is just different now. Neither is what Lofton was in high school because they have more freedom, meaning the game was a little more physical and the call more fouls now then they do 20 years ago. Plus you had to guard Lofton once he crossed halfcourt.
This is true. But, I think people would have said the same things about Richie Farmer, John Pelphrey and Deron Feldhaus. They gave us some pretty good memories. Guys will get better under Pope.
There is more to man to man than just stay in front of your man, it helps if you can stay in front of your man but true man to man is still a team defense and good man to man teams are taught and train on where to help and when to provide help defense, something again Calipari never learned. The only help defense Cal ever worked on was having a really good shot blocker on the back of the defense to erase mistakes and how many of those did we have over his years, maybe 3.
You're talking calculus compared to the introductory Math 1 that Cal was teaching.
It does appear like Noah is the better of the KY boys ........ Travis is forcing it and trying so hard he cant get out his own head . If Teacis can settle down he might be pretty good but asvof now this year he's in playable serious minutes. Noah however might be in a bit as he's more poised than Travis.
We are so conditioned to thinking all our players should end up in the NBA because of the Calipari era. There is a place on every team for a four year guy who can come in and give some good minutes. Remember when college was a place to get a degree and not an NBA factory???
What does being paid have to do with recruiting 4 year good college players that won’t make the NBA because of physical limitations??
Our team now is full of them.
