There was a thread on here months ago saying Wimsatt was going to be a Heisman. I didn’t agree but I do see some potential in him. What’s been done with him is no way to develop him, though. Even if you believe you can improve short passing accuracy (if a guy can throw a good long ball, I believe an inability to throw short is usually mental), throwing him in to that game like that can’t be how you bring that along.
If you have a QB that’s shown he has some tools, comes to you from a top program and was a 5 star HS guy, I think torpedoing his confidence 2/3 of the way through the season in a tied, winnable game won’t help him. Most people think BVG needs reps. I think he also needs play calling that builds a rhythm and we sub out all skill positions like it gives us points. RBs after one play, QB after 3 plays and we have the wrong guys on the field at crunch time and, even when down we take the whole play clock. In short, our offense creates stress for an inexperienced QB and shorts him of the reps and confidence he needs.
So, we have an OC who is managing to hamper potential (if not ruin) 2 QBs, and possibly some RBs. If he starts Wimsatt Saturday, and we get anything short of a miracle, how could anyone in the complex believe in Hamden at all?
