Louisville fans love to quote those Courier Journal Bluegrass State polls that show they dominate the city in terms of fan support. I forget what it typically shows, 60/40 red, maybe 70/30. Anyway, they should be reminded of tonight's governor race results. Three times that poll has shown Conway winning by 5, including just days ago. Bevin won by 9. That glorious poll also had Mongiardo beating Bunning, had Grimes and Lunsford both beating McConnell. Point is - the Bluegrass Poll is garbage. Always has been.

By the way, I've heard Fred Cowgill say his polling (WLKY tv) shows the metro area split 50/50 between blue and red....

The local polling about that is BS. The truth is that Lil Brothel fans, or many who identify as one, are not serious fans or ones who have been fans their entire lives. We have a lot of people who have move into Louisville from around the country. They move into a community and naturally embrace the local sports team. In a Professional sports town, they become fans of the local pro team. Same happens in Louisville. Its how they meet new people, go to parties, go to the games to blend in to the community. The poll should go a step further and try to ask to rate how passionate they are about the team. UK fans in Metro Louisville are like me....absolutely nuts and HATE LilBrothel. The "come lately" LilBro's would change colors as soon as they get transferred to another city.

If the polling is about passionate fans then it is even or more blue. And now with the scandals many of those "come lately" fans will be embarrassed to admit they are red.

UK fans are hardcore UK fans for life. UL fans are UL fans when they win.

Embarrassing Evidence: I have 2 nephews who were given UL full academic rides (now including Med School). So TODAY they cheer for Red. But neither have a clue who Denny Crum or Wes Unseld is.

I have always said that support in Jefferson Co was about 50-50. If you only look at the old inner city, then UL is probably 70-30, but once you consider all the county, which is now officially Louisville, it is split, pretty evenly.

As someone that lives in louisville, I'd say this is pretty accurate

That's likely true, and whether true or not hits on a more important point: it matters how you define the area, it matters how you ask the question. Certainly possible to get the answers you want by asking the questions in a certain way. Even if we assume the Bluegrass Poll guys are above board and aren't trying to hit a certain target.....I'd like to know what geographic area they are calling "Louisville". Wouldn't surprise me if the WLKY poll, showing an even split, is of all of metro, for example......

3 governor's elections in a row, the same thing has basically happened. The polls have been very close to the Democratic candidate's share of the vote, while the Republican gains most or all of the "undecided" voters in the poll. The final Bluegrass poll put Conway at 45, he got 44. In 2011 the final bluegrass poll put Beshear at 54, he got 56. In 2007 the final Bluegrass poll put Beshear at 59, he got 59. The Republican candidate got the 2% undecided in 2007, 6 of the 8% in 2011, and this year all the undecideds and a couple percent from people who said they were voting for Curtis. Interesting pattern, one I'd identified before yesterday's results that had be very nervous for Conway's chances.
