The Preston situation could have been really bad for KU however he never played a single minute and although his mom received money, we did not authorize it or give it.

I agree with all of that. The problem is, you have to intertwine all the webs back to proving the coach/coaches knew. Need a tapped wire or phone call or email etc. with him acknowledging payments to pin this back to him. Until we can get clear evidence Self or assistant coaches set up payments, they will just deny deny deny. Not saying it is right, but we all know that is what they will do. I mean, my God, look what denying till the death gets you today. UNC walks away from 25 years of fake classes and corruption.
I think we all know they are dirty as shit and hope they get what is coming to them, but just by going off the evidence provided, I'm not sure what will happen to KU. Hoping for the worst for them, though.

Self, Miller, etc. made sure they didn't have a trail leading to them.
The shoe companies (actually their lackeys) will take the fall. The schools/programs and players will come out looking like the victims.

KU fans seem to get mired down in the who knew what of the De Sousa situation. There was a ton of money flying around so it seems a stretch to think KU coaches had no clue.Let's back up one year to the Preston case,they were aware or became aware that there was an issue and held him out of competition,would that not have put them on alert going forward about other possible issues? Let's back up another few years and come forward with all the other player issues(Arthur,MacLemore and several others) at some point in all this Self's willful ignorance or being clueless about what is going on with his players and his his program has to wear thin

I think you are right but for a different reason,regardless of the outcome of the trial in order for anyone to be punished the NCAA will have to take action and they wont.
Even if the defendants are found not guilty because clear evidence is presented that employees of these schools were aware and willing participants of what occurred with these recruits the NCAA will not go forard once these proceedings are concluded.They(NCAA) will say something to the effect that criminal justice proceedings are separate issues form NCAA issues and since no one employed by member institutions was under investigation nor were found guilty we are going to move on from this incident oad go about our business of overseeing college sports.We will have no more comment on the matter and deem it closed.

You may be right - I think we've all learned not to count on the NCAA to do the right thing. But, first, that the coaches didn't know what was going on doesn't get them off the hook. Second, I think a lot of folks were initially predicting as many as 80 schools would get caught up in this (remember all the hysteria when this first broke last year?), and the thinking was the NCAA couldn't possibly punish all of them, there wouldn't even be enough left to have a decent tournament. Now it looks like the net is going to have a lot fewer fish than that. Although everyone should remember right now we're hearing the prosecution's case, and the prosecution's theory is that the schools are victims, so in their case they aren't going to emphasize or certainly present evidence of school wrongdoing. Next week the defense starts, that's when all the dirt comes out - the defense very much wants everyone to know i) the schools are not victims here, they were in it up to their noses, and ii) everyone does this, not just my defendant.....
Between all this Perry Mason and Matlock stuff there could be an impending college basketball season in here somewhere.

Maybe a defense attorney moves for a mistrial because a KU fans surfaces on the jury

There is a simple matter of investment. Shoe companies sponsor universities.

To protect this investment, the shoe companies need to make a return. This return is through shoe and apparel sales, among other miscellaneous streams. In order to market their brand they need winning products on the floor (why do you think the P5 teams get the biggest contracts?) and there lies the incentive to push players to the schools with the greatest investment.
It is that simple.
If the defense feels it is in a pretty good place at the end of the prosecutions case they will try to lay it on thick very quickly(trot out the dirtiest program they can) hammer the point home hard and get the case to the jury as quickly as possible

UL is a given,they (defense)need only to ask the Judge to take Judicial Notice and move on.Much of the defense questioning has focused on KU so it seems logical to think that is where they will go when they get their turn at bat.
