Most expensive thing you've broken reacting to UK game?

I broke a window during the first half of the UK vs Dirty Birds game back when Sparks hit the 3 free throws to win it.

We were down 32-16 at half if I recall correctly. I threw a chair and it bounced up and shattered my living room window.

The joke was on me when Sparks hit the free throws and I was sitting there with a broken window in early January.

It think it cost me $300 to replace.

Almost got my family kicked off a plane this year. My son scheduled his senior recital the weekend of the regional finals. We were able to watch some of the WVU game on the way down to Nashville using Southwest Wi-Fi on my Kindle Fire. Our return flight was the same time as the Notre Dame game. When I found out we were one one of Southwest's few remaining planes without Wi-Fi, I made a pretty good scene. Mr. YouKay bought me a couple of bourbon to calm me down. That was the longest two hours of my life! We ended up racing to the car and turning on the radio just in time to hear Andrew Harrison making the final free throws and ND missing the last shot.

Well, it wasn't really expensive ... but it was extremely vital to my health and mobility lol, I had major knee surgery in February and was still on crutches in our loss to Wisconsin, I was already outside on my porch smoking because I knew the loss was coming with about 2 minutes to go, so I patiently waited on the porch so when I yelled and said close to 3904 curse words I wouldn't be around anyone ... I didn't even think about it I just slammed my crutch into the side of my house, it broke in half and wasn't usable and I had to be assisted back to my room ... talk about feeling stupid.

Made me feel better for a few seconds though lol.

I have never broken anything but I have said every cuss word known to man and I even made up a couple.
If you want to see a mad UK fan go to YouTube and put in World's Angriest UK fan. I would link it but I don't know how.
He blames everybody except the dog that is watching the game with him.

That is very scary how similar we are ... I sound almost exactly like this guy when the games are on lmfao. That is why I make my children leave the room.

I broke my big toe once. I was holding a soft ball during a game when I was 13 and slammed it down hitting my bare toe. Lol

During the at Mississippi State game in 2004 the Cats led most of the game and pissed it away at the end. Convinced we were gonna lose, I flung a big, poorly made, glass ash tray filled with cigarette butts at the wall of my crappy college apartment. The ash try shattered spilling nasty butts everywhere, and it put a huge hole in the drywall. My new girlfriend (now wife) looked genuinely frightened.

Seconds later, Erik Daniels made a layup at the buzzer to give UK a 1 point win. To add insult to injury, I cut my hand and got a tiny piece of glass in my foot while cleaning up the ashtray pieces.

I never threw anything heavy again. Now, I throw my hat directly into the floor in front of me. The only thing I can break is the hat and it only cost $8.

After breaking several remotes and pounding the end table through the years, my wife of 20+ years got me one of the greatest gift ever!

It's a foam "brick" that is painted and looks rather realistic. It's amazing how this metaphorical piece of wonder works. When I get upset, I throw it at the TV. Then, when I retrieve it, there is that "A HA" moment when I realize how silly it is to let a ballgame affect me to the extent I would be willing to damage a TV or furniture.

I love this thread. Now, I know I'm not the only one. My kids are no longer children but I used to make them leave the room during UK games because of my selective language.

EvilMD: Never EVER watch an important game with people unless you are SURE they are pulling for your team. Don't fall for the old "I just want to see a good game" crap. That person will turn on you as soon as the game gets close.

You are SO right EvilMD. I learned this lesson with a good friend. If they don't support the team you are a big fan of... The a-hole in them WILL come out! You are likely to be taunted during a moment when the last thing you want to experience is trash talk.

Honestly, if it gets that bad now, I change the channel, turn it off, and/or walk away for a bit. DVR is a wonderful thing.

Agreed with this. When I was a high school senior in 2005, I had a friend from my old hometown in NE Ohio stay for the day. It was the same day as the Michigan State Patrick Sparks toilet bowl 3 point shot double OT game. I punched a pillow after the loss (or it may have been after the 4,000th offensive rebound for MSU) and my friend said "it's just a game, who cares." While he is right to a certain extent, that's one of the last things you want to hear when you are emotionally compromised.

Also, I'm not sure if it's comforting or frightening to know that so many people react the same way to tough losses. I feel for each of your significant others as I do mine.

Busted a couple of knuckles and a door or two over when I was a teenager. Now I just get where I do not want to be around any one for a few days. I will not watch any type of sportscenter or sports highlight show for several days after.

Dang BBL, I do the same thing. My son gets so angry too when he is around but if I see the game slipping away at the end, rather than watch it I turn the channel or hit record and then off. I can take most anything but a UK loss just turns my insides to mush.(Anyone who asks, I tell them it hurts my heart....the truth is, I am not lying.) I can watch the close ones but with the end very probably not in doubt I shut'er down....(I guess I also hope by me turning it off I'll jinx the expected outcome.)

Oh, I've never broken anything...Do my insides count? If they do, I have...

Yep, insides count. Mine were destroyed after the FF loss to Wisconsin. Still hurting, in fact. :-(

^^^This. My family knows to just leave me alone. After a tough NCAAT loss, it'd probably be best for everyone if I had a cabin on top of a hill somewhere.

Haven't really broken anything... though I've kicked and punched plenty of stuff through the years.

TV during the second half of the UK/Georgetown loss in 1984.

Awesome story. I remember in the early 80s we beat Tennessee by one at home one year. My family and I were going to see a movie and after waiting and waiting (listening to the radio broadcast in the car) they said come on, we have to go. There was like five seconds left and Tennessee was inbounding the ball. Each team called a timeout and finally we had to leave. I've never been so miserable watching a movie. Didn't have internet back then so it took a while to find out if we had won and how. Hall put Mel Turpin on the inbounder and Tennessee threw a bad pass and time ran out. Even Joe Hall was smarter than Pitino in close games.

I actually unfriended a cousin right before the Ohio State game because I knew he'd talk all kinds of smack. It was a huge controversy because my aunt thought it was a huge diss to her whole side of the family. LOL

In 1999 my Rams were on their way to the Super Bowl. My stepbrother says "come watch the NFC championship at my place. I have a couple other friends coming over. I get there and sure enough they're both Bucs fans and every time the Rams made a mistake they'd start bobbing and weaving. That was the ultimate tightened sphincter game and I was so obnoxious the Bucs fans left. The next week a friend asks me to watch the Super Bowl at his place. He covered the Jaguars for the paper we worked for and supposedly hated the Titans. Well, they're driving for the tying score and suddenly he's pulling for them to score. Reason? He had Rams 6 and Titans 3 in the Super Bowl pool at work and with overtime he had a really good chance.

I'm telling you. It's just not worth the chance. People, even friends, will turn on you like that.

Enjoyed reading this thread. Would think it be fun if all of these thread posters were in a room watching a game at the same time. The security deposit on the room rental would knowingly be forfeited going in. If no one got hurt or arrested, it would be a great experience to see.

The kid with the chain saw was the most graphical comment.

My wife's eardrums probably. She's learned to close my office door and retreat to the far side of the house with the dogs when I'm watching Cats Basketball.

I broke a bookcase with my elbow once in the late 80's or early 90's. It had a couple of hinged doors right in the middle and I just put my elbow right thru them both. Was watching the game with a friend and it scared the hell out of him.
Nowadays, I just flip the channel when I feel the Dark Side ready to explode. Can't afford to replace TVs, remotes or even bookcases.

I have taped or DVR the games for years now. During the Tubby years I would get so frustrated that I broke a few remotes and what have you but my bigger concern was my health (literally, I have high b/p that is difficult to keep under control). I started watching the games on about a 30 minute delay while I periodically kept up with the score from the Internet or a sports channel. I found out that if I watched the game on delay with the occasional peek at the current score and then knowing what was going to happen, it wasn't as hard on me. I still do that some now if a game gets too close or the Cats aren't playing well, I will switch over to something else and then pick up the game on delay a little later. I know it's kind of silly, but so far I have avoided having a stroke or heart attack. Oh, yeah, I have been watching all the UK football games that way this year. Another advantage is fast forwarding through all the commercials and any non-UK related half-time stuff.

Like many of you, I'm very bad company for a game for anyone, really. I have a baby daughter now, so hopefully that settles me down.

I've been fortunate enough to never actually break anything, but that is strictly luck. My wife got me a foam rubber Thor hammer so I wouldn't smack the remote on anything or throw it. I highly recommend some kind of nerf product to any other fans. That hammer has really saved a few things around my house.

Well my wife just reminded me that I threw a candle holder at the wall and it stuck through the drywall on the other side, I threw a boot at the front door that dented it after the Michigan State / Sparks game (we lived in MSU territory at the time and I was really going to get razzed) and I shucked a full glass of Blantons bourbon across the room right off the table.
I can't go turning the game off either, not my style, I don't want to miss a second, the offseason is too long for that.
And my wife also gave me one of those foam bricks. I tore it in half. It's in a landfill somewhere .
