Most consecutive regular season wins..

UK has 49 straight regular season wins (50 if you count the play-in game vs. Vanderbilt in March 1954)

This covers part of the 1951-52 season, the entire 1953-54 season (remember no games were played in 1952-53) and part of the 1954-55 season until Georgia Tech upset UK at home.

That game vs. Georgia Tech not only broke UK's regular season consecutive winning streak, but also their home game consecutive winning streak.

From NCAA Record Book:

76 UCLA 1971-74
57 Indiana 1975-77
56 Marquette 1970-72
54 Kentucky 1952-55
51 San Francisco 1955-57
48 Penn 1970-72
47 Ohio St. 1960-62
44 Texas 1913-17
43 LIU Brooklyn 1935-37
43 UCLA 1966-68
42 Seton Hall 1939-41

We are currently at 36 (31 last season + 5)

I always wondered how in the world games against Cincinnati YMCA and other opponents like that count.

If the NCAA lists UK with 54 then they must be counting UK's 4 wins in the SEC Tournament in '51-52 plus the play-in game in '53-54.

If so the. UK's current streak should include the three SEC tourney wins as well. (although not sure why those would be considered part of the regular season.)

More often than not, playing the 3 games of the SEC tournament is a regular season for us.

Notice that none of those teams is from the last 38 years.

And if Jon Scott is saying that UK's 54 counts conference tournament games, then I think we should assume that UK's current run is 39 (meaning that list defines "regular season" as everything except the NCAA or NIT). I think this year's team is going to see 3-5 losses in the regular season, but I don't see those coming any time soon. I can see ending up 5th or 6th on that list without anything extraordinary happening. If something extraordinary does happen, then UK could end up #2.

Actually at the turn of the century the YMCAs were generally superior to collegiate teams.

In Cincinnati in particular during that time between the YMCA and other teams like Christ Church those were considered the strongest teams in the area.
