Totally agree with this, and nothing builds excitement like a new coach. I think as long as NIL is what it is coach contracts should be short and easy to get out of. A new coach is a quick fix if you can do like Indiana and bring in a successful mid major coach who will bring talent with them.Seems to me that in the age of NIL it's more important than ever to have a high level of excitement for your program. Obviously Stoops isn't getting that done so Mitch needs to find a way to make a change. Not many are going to pay nil money for this crap so Stoops has dug himself a hole he can't get out of.
I haven’t already agreed with Matt but he is spot on.
Waiting for the usual ‘But how many Gator bowls did we go to in 1986?’ from someoneMitch is paying a guy that has been better than 7-6 two out of twelve years 9 million dollars. Both should be shown the door. Every other SEC program would have fired the coach a long time ago. I know our program doesn't have the greatest tradition, but that is basically beating three Kent States, Louisville, and winning three SEC games and making 9 million dollars..
Shit happens. Stoops pretty much laid in on the line to his team yesterday: To paraphrase: "Some of you will be asked to move on, some asked to return. But if you're not ready to work, don't come back." We'll see how it goes.So basically we paid the wrong guys and babied guys to get/keep them. What many of us thought but at least its basically confirmed.
Stoops needs to go back to the blue collar culture. Good news is it's totally doable. Bad news is thats probably a 3-5 year rebuild.
Hope is some of this gets worked out during recruiting. Coach says: "This is what I'll do, this is what I expect from you." Some of our people don't get it, would rather use sophomoric names/terms instead of discuss. Change is needed, can Stoops pull it off?Lots of things to be upset about in that. But there is one that is facing every coach in football. You get on a kid and try to correct something, he gets his feelings hurt and hits the portal. That is a college football issue not just a UK and Mark Stoops issue. Kids get mad, if early enough declare they are redshirting, transferring and do just that without any kind of consequences. If he is a pretty good player he has teams bidding on him. So you can relax things a little, have your players transfer or quit. I agree Stoops has lost the fanbase and a change needs to happen, but not for the reason I listed, his hands are tied there, and may be the cause of the other things.
