Mike DeCourcy’s pre-season bracketology starts Kentucky as a #3 seed

Is Calipari the only coach in America who could have anywhere between 6 to 9 future professional basketball players on his roster (including what looks like at least five top 40 picks), and still get this much disrespect from the national media?

Well 3 of them (all at the same position) aren’t able to play yet, and we don’t know when they will (at 100%).
Many are FR, and those take time to develop, and both those may = some early loses. Add in the SEC being good.
So I think it is fair.

We will be so lucky if we get a 3 seed.

I like it. They overrate us many years & it puts undue pressure on young teams.
overhyped on a down year but hopefully underrated this year. We keep saying that cal needs to prove it now. Past couple years our preseason ranking was too high imo. So why now, aren't we expecting a top 10 team. Logic said its because of past preferences but i don't so. To me its more about storylines

It's not disrespect if it's valid, though.

I’m not in love with the roster tbh. Rebounding and defense looks like an issue to me on paper. Just gotta hope i’m wrong. I think a 3 seed is actually generous.

Calipari has earned his disrespect. All the talent in the world & we've won 1 NCAA tournament game since 2019.

2020-21 - A 9-16 record
2021-22 - Lose in the 1st round to a 15 seed
2022-23 - Lose in the round of 32

Calipari deserves no respect

For a team like Kentucky, with a traveling fanbase like BBN, there's virtually no difference between a 1 and 2. I'll take 1-4 as long as we're healthy and drama free. Please baby Jesus, give us a drama free season.

To be fair we have been preseason top 5 several times over the last few years and didn't back it up. I think most media members are taking a conservative approach after having been burned a few times.

Season doesn't even start for 2 weeks and we already have the drama of if or when 2 of our 7 footers play. I don't think it's possible to have a drama free season anymore.

I don’t think we can expect a drama free week. We have drama over the summer when there is no actual basketball.

Lol...name another coach who has talent for 1 year that has 4 final 4's & a national championship.

There's not another coach in college basketball that has won as much with first year talent than Cal. No one.

I think the point is that he hasn't won much recently with the first year talent, which is frustrating to many. Do you want him to be the best "first year talent" coach in the nation or the best coach in the nation. I personally think in today's game, it is going to be very, very difficult to win a natty relying on primarily freshman. Not saying its impossible but experience is trumping freshman talent more times than not

LOL every coach trends downward at some point. If you can't see the pattern, you're an idiot. Cal cannot continue to live on his distant past. Even someone as dense as you should be able to see the numbers in the post you quoted.

Calipari has seen his last 3 seed or better! 4-8 seeds will be the norm for UK until the guy leaves, this season will prove to be no exception.

Name another coach who has had as much first year talent? That's an ignorant argument. The bottom line is he was great his first 6 years and below average since. Slice it however you want.

Even so, Cal getting outcoached by a drunk in the EE game in 2010 with the lineup we had was a red flag and I was dumbfounded. Still am.

In 2010, I was dumbfounded as well. I wouldn't be today.

There's no doubt there are bench coaching deficiencies. That being said the results those years were nothing short of spectacular. However, if he's not going to get transcendent talent like he once did, then he's going to have to get help or improve in those areas or hes ultimately going to fail. Like I said, slice it however you want. He just needs to put an elite team on the floor. It's been 9 years since he has and that's not acceptable at Kentucky.

It bothered me at first but i thought he rectified that. Huggins had his number for years and after that game they haven’t beaten us again. 3-0 since.

What did it for me was when it became clear other coaches were starting to figure him out, and the top players started going elsewhere and he was so slow to adapt. It’s been 8 post seasons since our last 1 seed or final four. That’s too long. We should have moved on after the 2021 season imo.

Duh, he has earned every bit of the disrespect he is getting....just look at what he has done with loads of talent in the past. The 2010 teams comes to mind first...5 first round draft picks and they lose to WVA who had to play a backup point guard. Not to mention the fact that WVA went on to lose their next tournament game by 40 plus points.

I wonder why the media still slobbers over Gonzaga, Duke and the usual love bugs, even though they have had some rough years as well.

Cal has not done crap since 2019 so why would anyone think it will change? Granted, I do like the makeup of this roster but I got to see them against top competition. We will know a lot when we play Kansas. Win that game and I will start to buy in.
