Malachi Nelson and Bush Hamdan connection at Boise

Former 5 star from USC to Boise to ??
Maddux Madsen was a pretty good QB for Boise this year, but it was concerning that Nelson didn't beat him out. Nelson is still young, but he's already lost two QB competitions and bolted. I don't know what it says about him despite the lofty ranking that he had?

Kentucky was early on him when Coen first got here, but it was just hail mary attempt to try to get a 5-star here. He did commit to Boise when Hamdan was still the coach there, so they do have a connection. I just don't see him leaving the west.

The guy isn't big enough to play as a pro-style QB in the SEC. He'd get bent like a pretzel the first time one of those 250 lb. freak JACK LBers that can run a 4.5 forty got loose into the backfield.

Several recent pro style QB will disagree with that, he is quite a bit bigger than Bryce Young and Stetson Bennett

I feel like we just went through this exact same thing. He’s currently ranked the 21st QB in the portal and will continue to drop as more guys go in.. Just doesn’t move the needle for me.

As a comparison, Levis was the 2nd ranked QB in the portal and Leary was the 3rd. Both had experience…Leary much more that Levis.

Then you have Brock with very little experience, who was the 5th ranked QB in the portal…but mainly off of HS ranking hype.

I’m a huge pass on this guy.

What about Vandy, that guy is about 5'8". Drew Bledso was a small guy and played for years in the NFL
I dont know if I'd call the Vandy guy a pro style. Regardless, that QB had elite awareness and a coach with a system he was taylor made for.

When Bush was hired I had high hopes he'd bring Jeanty with him then was surprised, actually shocked, when there was never a mention. Would've solved a lot of problems.

I'd rather have an upperclassman that was excellent in a smaller conference than a 5* that hasn't played. This is especially true for a QB looking for his 3rd p4 school because he hasn't been able to win a QB competition. (I have similar thoughts on other positions.)

I don't want to run Boley off with a QB who has several years of elgibility, but we need need a veteran QB. It'll be difficult to find a 4th or 5th year QB who knows he may not win the position. However, Stoops doesn't have time to waste while letting a young QB develop. He may take the best QB he can find, then let the chips fall where they fall.
