Mack Brown out at UNC

Sumrall's going to be the hottest name in the coaching carousel this offseason. There's zero chance he's waiting around for Stoops to waddle off into semi-retirement. We might as well accept it.

They’re probably targeting Sumrall.

Anyone ever wonder who Stoop's agent is? I did so I looked it up. His name is Jimmy Sexton and I am not the least bit surprised that he ate Barnhart's breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night cap. That dude is serious. It boggles my mind how Stoops landed such a whale.

Jimmy Sexton has eaten alot of AD'S hearts, all of them he has negotiated with. I think every big name coach uses him.

If only UNC could come offer Stoops about $7+ mil/year for 6 or so years with some incentives to get over his current buyout number. Sounds like a good job for Sexton. 🙏

I'm sure this has beeen discussed but didn't Stoops talks with A&M and their HC job violate his contract or did Mitch know about A&M reaching out the proper way?
I don’t think Mitch has the same clause for stoops. Cal was flirting with the nba and college rumors every off season before the big UCLA contract. My assumption is that is how that clause ended up there.

If the same clause existed then I’m sure Stoops probably informed Mitch prior to conversation and followed protocol. He isn’t a slime ball like Cal

Sumrall on several lists of possible UNC replacements. If not UNC, some other school will lock him up this year. I actually saw one list with Joker as a candidate lol.

I don’t think Sumerall would go to UNC. Yes, they are basketball school like Kentucky but it’s not a great conference so I think recruiting there would be a little more challenging. Look at Mack Brown. He had one great year and only won like one bowl game in his time there.

However, Stoops would be a good fit for UNC because of all those reasons. Take a small pay cut but, win 6-7 games easily each year in a less competitive conference. He would have a much better chance of making it to to the conference championship there than in the SEC. It wouldn’t shock me to see Stoops go to UNC

I don’t see Sumrall going to UNC. He knows if he sits at Tulane one more year he may have his picking between multiple SEC openings.

The flip side is that if he doesn’t take a job now, he’s risking having a worse year at Tulane next year and then maybe he wouldn’t get the same job opportunities. But I think that’s very unlikely. You could also argue it would be much easier for him to make the playoff at UNC than in the SEC, given the difference in competition.

We got lucky once with Cal being that dumb. No way we could hit the daily double.

Any AD that would hire Stoops right now should get the resume together and wait for their walking papers. No AD in their right mind would hire a 4-7 (probably 4-8) coach that’s on the hot seat and trending downward.

Lol keep on dreaming.
Yeah while he makes good money at Tulane when one of these schools comes along offering 5, 6mil plus for 5 years that sets the guy for life at a next level up. And UNC does have some things going for it for the right guy. It’s not like it’s a job bereft of opportunity.

Brown has reached the point he needs be replaced. Northwest Carolina produces some good football players, just not enough for all the instate schools and other teams that hit the state Not sure Stoops would voluntarily take a 30% pay cut, but if he goes there i think Marrow goes with him.

Well, I will say this, If Sumrall's heart is with UK, and we are perhaps stuck with Stoops for another couple of years, I think UNC is a job he would be more reticent to leave when the UK job comes open. Plus we get a taste of what he can accomplish at the P4 level. UNC to UK would be a fairly lateral move.

I think there are a number of schools that would consider his overall resume and take a flyer on him. Would they be lateral moves or slight drops? yeah, more than likely, but lots and lots of coaches have been given opportunities to redeem themselves after flaming out at other places.

I have been of the mindset since we got into the ACC that UNC had one distinct advantage over FSU and Clemson in the conference move sweepstakes--they would expand the markets--and just as critically in the stuffy academic circles of the Big Ten, the academic profile. They would be more coveted than either of the ACC's two football powerhouses to both the Big Ten and the SEC. If you remember back to when Nebraska, Missouri and Texas A&M left the Big XII, there was a package for the Big Ten that included Texas, Notre Dame and UNC as a bloc.

When put into that perspective, I think the UNC football job is higher profile in the industry than people realize and they also have something else--the Jordan Brand affiliation. Nike's affiliation with Oregon is why they are sitting at the top of the polls right now--it sure isn't geography, local recruiting base or Media Market. North Carolina is a state rich in football talent.

I meant more keep on dreaming to think UNC is gonna take Stoops off our hands lol

I agree with your point on Sum though. I think for him as a coach does he value winning things that matter (conference title, playoff berth, etc) or is he just happy to be at UK no matter the success rate?

Because it's way easier to win not in the sec or at a sec program with more NIL, better history, support. Etc.
