M. Barnhart is the ONLY AD in the SEC who would retain a 12th year coach whose team QUIT !

I know the contract is a big issue. But how can an AD see his semi-flagship program quit multiple times over the years and just move on ?
I say it’s laziness on Mitch’s part. Loves the title and salary, doesn’t want to do the hard work.

Yep. Auburn and LSU fired coaches who won national titles. Our AD keeps a guy who has lost 34 games since 2019, and has only been above .500 in conference play twice in his entire career.

We stay losers because this is acceptable.

I pointed this out last year. Stoops made more at Kentucky to lose six games last year than Jim Harbaugh made to win a national title at Michigan.

In what world is that acceptable?

Mitch reminds me of a GM that just wants to sell tickets and merch and doesn’t have really any desire to win titles.

I get that we’ve had success in other sports like women’s volleyball and baseball under his reign but no moves are ever made to win football games.

When you’re in a conference with the juggernauts that the SEC has, you have to make bold changes. If you don’t care about winning then leave.

Mac Brown just got fired at North Carolina.

Barnhart is directly responsible for the state of the football program. While he was decrying NIL and slow walking its implementation here the best conference in college sports was going all in. Is it a coincidence that the SEC is dominating basketball now? Hell no.

Time for him and Stoops both to go. Our athletics program would save a LOT of money with them gone as they are both OVERPAID.

Even those buyouts are the second and fifth highest with Malzahn’s at $21.5 million and Orgeron at $16.9 million. Not even close to what Stoops $44 million is. Would Auburn and LSU paid that? Maybe, who knows, but I think it puts into perspective how hamstrung UK is with that terrible contract.

TAMU paid that stupid buyout of Jimbo but they have a lot more money than us.

The problem is the contract to begin with. We overpay for mediocre results that gets other coaches fired. Oh you won 8 games? Well here’s a lifetime contract. 🤦‍♂️ You get us to a 6-6 bowl game? OMG, here’s a statue!

Mitch Barhart = Jerry Jones
Mark Stoops = Mike McCarthy

So many similarities and yes I am a Cowboys fan. So my football season has been just peachy. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Mitch certainly puts out a strait laced very conservative persona. You would think a player at the concession during a game would elicit some type of response from him. This is the AD who internally suspended one of our players for a blind side block.

Watched the first few cut ups of Van Hiles game review on twitter. Woof, it’s brutal.

I have zero issue paying a coach huge money to coach the FB program if it attracts a legitimate coach. That said we should never have a guaranteed deal above almost every other school out there. It’s like 2-3X more than other SEC coaches.

Barnhardt nailed the basketball search....who says he can't with the next footballs coach. A bunch of crazies on a message board, that's who.

He has just as many dud hires as good ones. We can't afford to make a dud hire in football again or the program will sink.
Barney give contracts like a man isolated from the real world. Barney gives contracts who has no expectations for the future .

The problem with UK football is not Stoops, not the players, not the QB. It’s Barney plain and simple. His contract to Stoops and before Cal should have got him fired. Number one rule in business is never give a contract you can’t get out off. Barney acted like he and Stoops are best friends with a contract for 9,000,000 a year. You don’t pay that kind of money to someone because they go to bowl games. In 12 years UK has no SEC Championships. No Division championships but bowl appearances..what gets coaches fired in the SEC gets 9,000,000 contracts at UK.

Barney and his contract to Stoops is the only problem that can’t be fixed..

The title probably isn't true. A 12th year coach gets a lot more leeway than a 3rd year coach.

I think it's just one more tiresome example of the unfounded Barnhart hate.

I don't know, Mitch has some escrow built up with me after how he got Cal to leave and hired Pope. Sleight of hand for sure.

Mitch also presides over the only program whose fans get geeked up at .500 ball and a bowl.

Folks, CMS would be gone today, maybe even last season, had he not been under such an insane contract. A contract that AD brass had to conjure up because this fanbase was foaming at the mouth to lock in Stoops and Marrow.

Everyone is talking tough now. Years ago, before that contract was signed nobody said, "hold up now, what exactly has CMS done?"

Same situation in basketball. "Mitch and that contract...faaaarrrrr Mitch"

Ya'll wanted it. Cal was being courted by everyone NBA and CBB and fans it was "faaaaarrrrrrr Mitch if he lets Cal slip..."

Mitch has a lot of faults, but for a guy who has been at a university for 22 years, he's done a pretty good job at hiring.

Basketball
BCG - terrible
Cal - good hire
Pope - appears to be a good hire

Football
Brooks - good hire
Joker - terrible
Stoops - good hire

If you go into the next 2 sports in line:

Women's Basketball
Mickie DeMoss - bad hire
Matthew Mitchell - good hire
Kyra Elzy - bad hire
Kenny Brooks - appears to be a good hire

Baseball
John Cohen - good hire
Gary Henderson - so-so hire
Nick Mangione - good hire

Look at other programs across the SEC (Bama and Florida as examples) and you'll see that every school has dud hires...some more than others. Mitch's biggest fault when it comes t coaches is the contract extensions, specifically the length. I'm hoping since he gave Pope a 5 year contract, he's figured out that 5 years is the max that a guy should have remaining in his contract.

I actually have more confidence than most in his ability to hire the next coach.

Look at the pattern you listed. It looks like good hire followed by a bad hire followed by a good hire. If football holds true to form then we are due for a bad hire. 😩
