Livingston living in a dream world

In terms of why Livingston is doing this, that is an assumption on your part. Your assumption may be accurate, or it may not.

A good friend of mine once refused to interview for a role at a new company when their HR recruiter reached out to him, and he still ended up getting the job. The reason for this is because that same company had just reached out regarding an open VP position a few weeks before. They put him through an extensive interview process, but ultimately decided to go with an internal candidate.

When the recruiter called again about this second open position, he told them he was very interested in the role but only if they were serious about hiring him specifically. He had a good job and didn’t need to switch, felt they already had enough info on him, and didn’t want to go through the whole process again.

He ended up getting the role and his decision to not interview had nothing to do with wanting to hide anything. He simply felt that they had all the info they needed and didn’t want to jump through any more hoops. His point of view was that if they wanted him, then go ahead and offer him the position.

Point being, there can be reasons you avoid doing things for a prospective employer that have nothing to do with wanting to hide something. And unless you’re close to the person, it’s difficult to weigh in on someone’s motives.

So it’s certainly possible that Livingston is trying to hide something, but it’s also possible that he feels that teams that say they’re interested have enough info to make a decision, he doesn’t feel like this is necessary, and believes this provides no additional upside for him.

Now, that may ultimately prove to be a bad decision on his part, but that remains to be seen.

In one post, I was told I shouldn't compare Livingston to a normal interview.. and in the next post I'm reading a 4-paragraph anecdotal story about your friend's interview and how it relates to Chris Livingston.

Regardless, I don't blame CL for going this route, or any other recruits. It benefits them. Don't show them any extra. But that doesn't mean it's not a weird situation, and we can also comment on how this is not a good situation for NBA programs, where the players are now calling the shots. I would not want to be the team that's rolling the dice on him.

As for CL himself, we will likely never know. But based on his time here, his body language, etc.. I get the sense this is him doing whatever he can to get the pay check, instead of "doesn't feel it's necessary to show them more". He and his camp aren't idiots. He's on the verge of not getting drafted all together, and they know he's not 1st round material. He got wind that he'd be the 45th-ish pick, and it sounds like his camp is more than willing to take that and run.

Sharpe was a projected lottery pick. Livingston isn't projected in the 1st round, hardly in the draft at all.

It ain't the same.
Ok...bad comparison. But, we all watched Daniel Orton play at UK. What about his play suggested he was a first rounder? My point is that players are drafted on potential alone in the NBA draft. And sometimes a player that is a 6 and 3 kid in college becomes a first rounder because of athleticism alone.

Couple things, Orton was a looooong time ago, people give that example a lot and it's fine but we are talking over 13 years ago now. You'd think if this was so common you'd be able to pull a different example.

Plus there was a time in the league, even 10-15 years ago, athletic bigs got drafted early on potential. It happened all the time. We're talking about a Small Forward here. Not a big guy. I do think there is a difference.

CL ain't getting drafted in the first round.

This. Plus CL is a 6-7 tweener that can’t dribble or shoot. Not much demand for those kinda guys.

I could find 25 guys in the last 5-6 years that had meh college careers and get drafted. Orton was the first that came to my mind. The other was the Primo kid from Alabama that average 8 and 4 and was drafted in the lottery a couple years back.

That being said, nothing would surprise me in the draft. CL may be drafted just based on the fact he's with Klutch. I can't tell with certainty what the thought process is for the draft most of the time.

How does Calipari keep finding and taking commitments from these clowns? Sharpe. Whitney. Askew. Fletcher. SKJ. Wheeler. Montgomery. Skal. Gabriel. Livingston. DJ Jeffries. Skyy Clark. We keep recruiting delusional player after delusional player.

Remember five years ago when Calipari bragged about how they were doing a better job of "identifying kids who want to be here?"
3 or 4 of those you mentioned have, will, or are playing in the league. Not to mentioned the 25-30 others. Finding the talent is not our problem, it's keeping them from the quick money. Which would be my problem too.

Don’t disagree with anything in your post….however it is super interesting that the NBA just changed the rules in the CBA and after this year players MUST scrimmage at combine to maintain draft eligibility.

“Participation in 5-on-5 scrimmages won't be required under the new rules”, this is from the article that you posted.

I am sure that type of person is pervasive among elite HS basketball players. Imagine being 18 years old and being told your shit don't stink your whole life because you can play basketball well.
Actually, Cal has done a great job of keeping the knuckleheads from our program.
Well they used to poop ice cream! 🍨🍦you could even get cones double dipped or a caramel sundae right out of those ice cream machines. I agree for awhile Cal brought in good kids. Now, it seems like he just grabs whoever he can get let's go with it. He signed a nice class but I don't know if any of them has a ice cream machine attached to the ass. We do need sign more players. I don't care if they poop tea. But I don't feel like Cal gets the highest quality of kids like he once did in terms of character. And maybe that's just an overall thing with kids in general with this new age of college basketball/football. I hear rifle got some nice kids.

Get Johnson and move on.
Agree. Do what’s best for UK. CL will understand. Cmon Cal put UK first. That’s your employer. Protect UK

There will be room for CL if needed. Probably would transfer anyway if no nba to get to a place he would be showcased according to his agent’s wishes.

It’s crazy, I can’t believe Gabriel plays for the Lakers. Every time I’ve watched them and he gets in he’s immediately scored on, turns it over, or misses a 3.

Yet his stats or contract do not reflect that. Weird.

From CL;

“Being at Kentucky, I knew I was going to be held accountable a lot more,” he said. “To be able to be pushed by Coach Cal, rather than just being at a program where I got to do whatever I wanted to do. I feel as though that’s really going to prepare me for the next level, and I’m glad I was able to enjoy that at Kentucky. And I’m glad I went there.”

Listening to the tv guys while watching Oscar's 5v5 yesterday, I think maybe CL doesn't have a 1st round commitment from a team (there's no freakin way). But he could have a 2nd round (first 15 pick commitment) or even a team saying if we don't draft you we will sign you to a 2-way contract to develop in the G-league but be called up as needed.

Just saw where he declined the 5 on 5 scrimmage. Currently not projected to be picked at all. If this doofus leaves, goodness...
