Now, that loss we took Saturday is almost assuredly gonna hurt our seed, unless UNCW goes on a tear. However, what do we need to do in order to get a 1/2 seed? I say we must win out the rest of OOC and win the SEC outright, dropping no more than 4 league games and holding serve at home rest of season. Then, win two games in SECT.

Win the league and tourney (the committee always says that us winning it doesn't help our cause because they've made their decision before the outcome, but I'm not willing to chance that they wouldn't use the finals' loss against us) outright, beat the ever lovin' sh!t outta Gonzaga.
Good point. I forgot about Gonzaga. Gotta win that game and against the cheats.

This. Win out and make the bad loss a fluke or drop a couple more and be a 4 seed.

I am not worried about this team securing a 1 or 2 seed by year end. UK will definitely be in the conversation. Let's be real for a second, the team didn't show up at all in the first half and dug themselves a 14 point hole. They were feeling themselves way too much after the beat down against Miami, and Cal failed in having them mentally prepared for the game.

Looking back to 2020, UK lost to Evansville (much worse loss than UNCW) and Utah in the non con, as well as losing to an awful South Carolina team early in conference play. UK finished 25-6 and would have grabbed a two seed in all likelihood.

This year's UK team is much better than the 2020 team. While Saturday's loss was unacceptable, I look for UK to care of business and only get better as the season progresses to be right there in the conversation for a 1 or 2 seed.

1 seed - have to beat UNCheat and Zags, only SEC losses can come to Bama, Floppy Top, or TAM. One more bad loss ends that

2 seed - similar to above but could maybe lose to a mid tier SEC squad or one of Zaga / UNCheat

1 seed is what we want, but 2 seed is okay as well.

You don't want to fall to that 3 seed line because that would make your first game against a 14 seed like a......UNCW.

Must win out on OOC and drop no more than 2-3 SEC Games.

There's a LOT of parity now in college sports. That 5 loss #1 seed is not far fetched. Everybody's gonna have losses, and most will have one or two "bad losses".

You have to have 4, maybe 5, losses or less for a 1 seed.

5-7 for a 2 seed.

We have to beat UNC and Gonzaga obviously.

The key road games are @A&M, @Arkansas, @Auburn, @Miss St, & @Tennessee. You now have to win 3 of those 5.

Then you have the @South Carolina and @Florida too, which you know they aren't going to be ready for.

Of course, we can't pencil in home wins either now so I don't see a path to a 1 seed.

One, it's very unlikely we can lose just 5 games.

Second, I think 3 of the 4 are already spoken for.

Between Arizona, Kansas/Baylor/Houston, and UConn/Marquette. Then probably Purdue or a second B12 teams gets the fourht 1 seed.

It’s not going to help us now that the SEC doesn’t look to be near as good as everyone expected.

This really won't matter so long as we take care of business. And while the SEC stepped on it's dick to open the season, and while there may not be a top10 team in the conference, it's still VERY high in the rankings. Kenpom has 5 SEC teams in the top25, and another 4 in the top50ish.

The SEC is strong enough that it won't hurt us in any sort of SOS manner. I actually kind of prefer that there's no great team like Alabama or Auburn in recent years. None of these teams really scare me, and we should be able to mostly take care of the conference. On top of that, this bodes well for the SECT. The SEC this year has much more parity. No one is going to come out with any less than 3 or 4 losses IMO, which means a double BYE is in play even if you lose 6 or 7 games. Of course, thats just my estimation at this point.

I’m not holding my breath for a 1 or 2 seed. I still like this team and think they’ll be a tough out come March, but I expect we see a couple more showing like we just saw in SEC road games.

How about SEC home games????

😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

A whole lot of basketball to be played between now and selection Sunday. My takeaway is this: we got smacked up side of the head by a team that had no business being within 15 points of us. We looked unprepared, couldn't execute simple passes ,couldn't finish at the rim, couldn't hit 3's and couldn't get stops.

Where does the team go from here? Do they bounce back quickly? Do they continue to struggle in more than 2 or 3 of these areas? Cal's post game reaction/comments leave much to be desired but are business as usual for him.

We have more talent on this team than in recent years. How do they react? Are they pissed? Are they embarrassed? Do they care? Do they stick together? Does it turn into me ball/team turmoil?

It is one thing to drop a close well played game to KU but it is something else to drop a game like this on your home court

Great post. I hope this team decides to sack up and play angry. Take it as a personal affront that we let UNCW steal one from us.

If it's the alternative, and we have repeats of that debacle, I really don't know what to say.

I go a step further. We are at this point in a fight to get in the tournament.
Oooook. Step back from the ledge there. Lots of ball left to be played and a bunch of other T25 teams took a L this week too. Inexcusable, but this is not "NIT bound" trajectory atm.

Win the league, but lose in the tourney - tournament mattered says committee

Don’t win the league, but win the tourney - selections were already made says committee

Always been this way. They make up anything and everything for justification and every year it changes. Only solution is to win both.

I think if you wind up with 4-5 losses, you're still in the running. If you can keep it at 4, you'll get the 1 for sure. If you get to 5, you introduce room for discussion.

5-7 losses has you in the running for a 2. 5-6 probably get it. 7+ drops you more.

Yup.

We beat Texas A&M--don't matter.

Someone else wins the SEC Tournament: Man, what a tough valuable win.

I’m not worried about those games as much as some others. I’m not confident we will fare well against physical teams that slow it down and get us in a rock fight . Cal will always let the other team dictate pace of play. And I don’t think this team is built for those types of games.

I don’t believe there’s any way this team only loses 6 games . We already have 2 losses, one loss at at home (one home overtime win ) and haven’t played a road game .

Can’t argue with any of that.

Not going to be worried about seeding on Dec 4. What’s our roster looking like for 2026, that’s the big question.
