Justin Edwards is not a top 5 recruit

The rankings let a kid like this down. They had to rank someone and this class stunk. The only kid that stood over the rest IMO was Collier but the rest all were far from slam dunks for one reason or the other. I have hope he can progress but he will never be what some might’ve thought in a UK uniform.

Not an overwhelming athlete, only 6’6, not a great offensive player. He’s essentially a more talented Adou Thiero.

Personally I’m VERY wary with these kids they call “complete two way players” it’s usually code for the dude ain’t going to be as good offensively as someone ranked that high typically is.

But that’s the thing - he’s hasn’t been more talented than Thiero. You were just told that he was.

Thiero outplayed him in blue/white. Thiero is superior in most areas: strength, handle, defense, rebounding, aggression, bball IQ, toughness, etc.

The only thing Edwards could hang his hat on is the fact that he’s shooting 25.9% from deep. That’s not exactly killing it.

If both of these guys are in the league in one or two years - my money would be on Thiero to last longer there. Because he is a man and Edwards is a boy.

Maybe it’s not his fault and it’s Cal’s. People ever notice how these players leave and do way much better in the NBA than they did at UK. Cal’s gotta put these guys in positions where they’re at their best. Cal has done this year after year.

This hasn’t been the case with the SF position though. It’s been his weakness recruiting but he’s had some very successful ones that flopped in the pros. See MKG, Knox, James Young was a big 2 small 3, etc.

Edwards in a normal class is a guy ranked 15-25 with normalized expectations and probably role on the team. Instead he’s a guy that was weirdly mocked extremely high that feels millions leaving his sight with every missed shot/TO.

I’m at the point where I think the recruiting services secretly hate Cal. They find an average player and pump them up, declaring him a top recruit destined for the NBA lottery knowing that Cal will be all in on him. Then they all get to laugh and watch as Cal plays the guy 35 minutes per game no matter what and loses games because of it lol

All Cal can do is land 6'7 athletes at SF who shoot bricks. Would be nice to land a legitimate SF. To hell with the 5 star rankings. Lottery pick my ass. I'll take a Darius Miller or Derek Willis who will stretch the floor and stick around 4 years.
He won't even get drafted, the league has too many of his types already. 6'7" and can't shoot

Cal has done Justin 0 favors. He doesn't use him AT ALL offensively. Everything Justin does he has to do himself. He gets 0 designed post ups, no off the ball screens, nothing. Not that is an excuse for his sub-par play, but Cal can do a lot more to get him going.

Agree with that one too.

You guys need to chill. I can see why Edwards was a top 10 dude. He's 6'8, has a decent shot, and can jump out of the gym. So in high school he probably just flat out murdered his opponents - most of whom aren't playing college ball or D3. Now he's playing real competion.

So he's not as good as though? He's still averaging 10 a game. Give a freshman some time to develop.

Agree but I don’t think Cal really runs anything for anyone. Guys just either have to get their own or benefit when someone else tries to create for themselves and has to pass.

What? Edwards gets all kinds of looks.
