Good point, Moe.
Murray's not the typical Kentucky/ Calipari recruit in that he's not uber-athletic. He's just a great basketball player with an incredibly high basketball IQ. I have no facts to back this up, but perhaps his recruitment boils down to a couple of other causes:
1. The emergence of Tyler Ulis as a dominant player.
Cal grabbed Ulis late and came away with a rarity at Kentucky-- an underrated freshman. It seemed as if Cal appreciated Ulis not only as a ball player, but as a leader/ competitor. Perhaps Calipari saw that type of recruit-- questionable measurables, unquestionable desire/ uber-competitive-- as more desirable and easier to coach/ mold.
2. The late loss of other 2015 recruits.
Depending on who you read/ talk to/ listen to, UK was in the lead for at least two typically phenomenal, top five type wing/ shooting guards before they even began talking to the Canadian sharpshooter. Without their late-period decisions to go to other schools, Murray isn't even a focal point and instead likely goes elsewhere.
