I thought this would be a fun thing to do. Who does he remind you of in how easy it looks like he plays the game.
To me he plays a lot like Pete Maravich. Not in the fancy stuff Pete did,but in how easy he made it look. He always looked like he was going at 3/4 speed and could play all night never looking tired. To me that's the way Jamal looks. Things seem to just be so easy for him. Who does he remind you of??

The way he shoots the ball coming off screens remind me of Mitch Richmond. Of course, I don't think he'll be nearly the shooter Mitch was, but Jamal is smart like Richmond was at choosing his spots.

Murray is going to be a very good pro. I know there's been so much emphasis on athletic prowess, but I'm not sold on Murray having to be some type of transcendent athlete to thrive. His scoring skills are elite, and it basically offsets the notion of his needing any type of athletic boost to get by in the NBA.

So what's Murray's ceiling, everyone?

I think he could become a 2nd tier, top 30 to 50 NBA guy - 18 to 20 points/game; crafty as hell; fringe all-star; higher ceiling than Knight but along the same lines of Bledsoe in terms of production.

Thoughts?

Murray is a couple inches taller but he reminds me of Jay Williams. Great stroke, can get to the rim whenever he wants...

Murray seems to have some of the best qualities of several different players. Really hoping he's more like an Anthony Davis - he's not quite LIKE anyone else

btw - in case someone misreads that, I'm not comparing Murray to AD literally as a player, but more as a talent who cannot compare to anyone else who plays that position.

I think your tabbing him a bit low SOS.
Murray is a burner with great handles, can shot and can jump high. He is potentially a top 2-3 pick this summer.
I think Murray could be a perennial NBA all star but first will lead UK to #9.

Everything you said is quite possible.

He kind of reminds me of Jason Kidd only with a much better shot. Just the way he moves and handles himself out there seems as smooth as Kidd and always seems in control of the game like Kidd was.

I agree. Same size. Kidd more athletic. Murray a better shooter. But they are similar,

He reminds me of Austin Rivers, but only if Austin Rivers wasn't a twit, actually had a shot and was actually a nice guy.

Murray = Demar Derozan of the Toronto Raptors.

Briscoe reminds me of his backcourt mate ....Kyle Lowry

He's like a grown up version of D'angelo Russell. Doesn't have that kind of vision, but is a more reliable shooter.

Brandon Roy is also a good one that's been thrown around.

Nice comparison. He and Ulis is under control and makes the game look easy.

Brandon Knight, at least the way Cal will use him and the way he will impact the team. He's more advanced than Knight. He's also got other PG's around him whereas Knight had to man the PG spot while also being relied on as a scorer.

I don't know if you can get a much worse comparison than Murray to DeRozan. Their games are polar opposites. DeRozan is an elite athlete who struggles with his outside shot. Murray is an elite shooter who lacks elite level athleticism.

I think I like the James Harden comparison from a previous poster. Both are extremely crafty with the ball and make tough shots from anywhere on the floor.

I think he's like Manu Ginobli. So crafty. Not the best athlete but a good one. Good shooter, but he will hit big shots.

I see the ball in his hands at the end of the half, end of shot clock, and end of games when we have to have a bucket.

At some point this season, coaches will double him in those situations. He has the potential to be that good.

His vision is close to Tyler's. They both have some "Old Man" game to them. They just know how to make plays, and make others around them better.

We are blessed to have this young man, and he is only one part of what will be a darn good team.

I think the closet comparison is Jordan Crawford. Go watch his mixtapes.

i agree with basically all of this. and he'll have even more space in the nba and it'll look more like the world games all over again. when mitch got hot he would keep drilling threes. but he couldn't do quite the off the dribble stuff that murray is capable of, which is stephenesque.

richmond was more catch and shoot like ray allen from the top of the key or with a jab step or off a screen. murray scores more sporadically around the floor, err with more variety, taking all forms of jump shots, even beyond the arc. for instance his step back, transition pull up, and face up moves/shots are all top notch as far as i can see. he's just dangerous because he's quick with his first step, and he keeps guys on their heels.

There is not a valid comparison between Jamal Murray and Pete Maravich. Maravich was a true wing guard who played the point most of the time at LSU. Murray is a true point guard who will play the wing most of the time at Kentucky. Murray is a physically stronger player who will be a much better defender and rebounder. But Maravich had a significant NBA career, so I will wait before saying anything that would diminish Maravich in the comparison. But I think Murray is the best guard who has played at Kentucky since Louie Dampier, who was a 1st team All American. I know that is a bold statement, but Murray is 1 of the 2-3 best college basketball players in the country. Of course, Murray is 5 inches taller than Dampier. At this point, Murray compares best with Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant, because Murray is a strong, athletic player who can create shots and score at the rim, in mid-range, or from the perimeter. By the way, Murray has a shooting flaw. He often takes shots without squaring his shoulders to the basket. Calipari will correct that, and we will see some unearthly shooting nights by Murray. Murray skipped his senior year of high school. He is young, underrated, and has tremendous upside.

Somewhat reminds me of Gerald Fitch, but obviously better. Just the way he carries himself.
That's the same thought I had last night. Much higher talent level, especially ball handling and court vision.
