Is Memphis D thst good or Uconn O verated?

Man I hate UConn but LOL, refs man. Make a bad call on that over the back and punish the coach for complaining. Well done stripes!
He does it all game and eventually the refs get tired of it. Earlier they didn't call a cylinder call against Memphis and you could read his lips telling the refs to "get the f away from me, I dont want to hear it"

He's got a nasty mouth.

Didn't see it, but still have a hard time double punishing a team for ref incompetence.

UConn is not very good this year.
I think they will be by March. Big East isn't very good and I think once they figure out a starting lineup. Maheny is in over his head as a PG-he's too slow and honestly he's more like that blonde kid who just shot 3's for them on their '23 team Calcaterra then he is a big time player.

I wonder if Ahmad Nowell will get some run at PG for them by Big East?

They need to push pace and get the ball up and Maheny still plays like he's at St. Mary's and he just kills them offensively in terms of getting into sets as much as he's awful defensively.

But I like their wing play and versatility there. Reed will be a handful for a lot of teams as he's vastly improved from his 2 yrs at Michigan. They need to start him and use Samson Johnson like they did off the bench last year.

This is why you play a game like this. If they play Memphis in March--I'd take UConn by 10+. The advantage to the credit of Memphis was their preparation for this event. Got them through this game. But they also played like a Penny Hardaway team with a 13 pt lead and 3 minutes left--and that won't change in March.

The more I listen to Bilas, the more I despise him. The over the back was 100% the correct call. UConn guy leveraged into the back of the Memphis guy inhibiting the Memphis players ability to go up for the ball. Bilas is so bad for a guy who played the game at a high level.

Mahaney didn't even see the floor during crunch time. He was getting abused on defense. Phew!! Glad we have what we have!!

I agree he's gotta be better than that, but refs could let that go most of the time on questionable, at best, calls. That was clearly not a foul on McNeely.
They probably felt like they already did him a favor by calling the double tech instead of the solo tech in the shove like it probably should have been.

Personally, I think it was pretty text book over the back. He didn’t elevate above the guy w position and reach over w just arm contact….his chest was laying in the defenders upper back and that kept the Memphis player from jumping and bumped him out of the way. Do they let that call play on there out of fear of making a critical call most the time—yes. But it was probably the right call

He’s largely had due to constantly pushing the ESPN talking points. Commentators weren’t as bad when they were just calling the game.

ESPN today goes into the game and even the season with a hand full of talking points and narratives and bilas beats those narratives to death throughout the game. The over the back was one of ESPNs darlings and headline players for the season so of course it was protected. Same as Cooper choking was excused away bc he can do no wrong. It immediately became how that was great for him bc now he will come through in March…and Duke just missed open shots.

It’s the same reason espn wasn’t ready to talk about anything but Flagg after the game bc they couldn’t fathom that the story line would be anything other than a Duke win so they rolled with the premade Flagg highlight reel. And then Jay Williams wrote that BS article saying deal with it, Kentucky isn’t the story… to cover for espns incompetence to be prepared for unbiased post game coverage and their directives to push narratives.

Well that Sucks! Memphis wins, so expect robberies and shootings to happen all over the city tonight and tomorrow celebrating. Oh wait, that happens when they lose, they even do that when they don’t play. I hate this place.
