Haven't heard/read anything but, man, 5 losses at USC with all the hoopla of grabbing him from OU, paying big bucks for him and his staff and, I would assume, they have spread a reasonable amount of NIL around and they've lost 5 games already? If it's not hot, I'd bet it's warming up.

I think he's safe for same reasons other coaches who are on the hot seat are safe.

Buyout, chief among them. Also, talent. USC has a lot of youth/talent. So, brass and boosters really have to weigh not only the money, but essentially in this day and age if you boot a coach, you're saying goodbye to at least half dozen most likely more, good to great players and incoming recruits.

Florida same thing. Napier is safe due to buyout but also the young talent he's got on the team and lined up.

USC should be fine once they get their trenches up to par for B10.

I don't think coaches matter anymore. Players come for the dough.

But will Riley get the trenches up to par? When at OU, his teams seemed to underperform against SEC and B10 teams due to losing the trenches on both sides. Does he change his offensive philosophy a bit to be more physical and be more competitive on the LOS now that the Trojans are in the B10?

He's probably safe...for now. I don't think incoming recruits have anything to do with saving a coaches job. Pretty easy to point out coaches (Riley in his first year at USC, for one, Prime for another) that can attract a huge number of good transfers and restock the cupboard to compensate for losing a HS class.

Coaches, style, system matter more than you would think.

I mean Alabama had that kid practicing with them last year the week of playoffs. Saban retires, he bolts to OSU. Pretty sure he was going to get paid nicely by bama.

It’s just a few. Most commits aren’t able to be as fluid. Key positions are though. That’s all it takes.

Especially with offensive coaches. In the case of Reilly, the QB and skill talent are committing to him and his style.

Just saw it happen to us in basketball. Cal recruits a very specific player for how he does things. They all followed him.

Biggest let down since Frost flamed out at Nebraska. Both were supposed to be cant miss home run, we're headed back to the top of the college football world hires and both crashed. Count me as one who is really surprised he hasnt killed it there but also count me in as one that has enjoyed watching him flounder too. Thought he came off classless and arrogant the way he left OU, needed a little air taken out.

UF AD already announced Billy coming back for 25. I think they give OM trouble tomorrow.

Plus after that announcement their recruiting is taking off

Yep, I think AD made a wise decision.

At the risk of all that talent being raided, Lagway and that RB chief among them, I think you error on the side of giving Napier one more year.

See what he can do with Lagway and the young talent in year two. Spend that buyout money in the portal get some pieces to add to your core group of guys coming back, maybe hit a lick with couple freshmen coming in like they did this year.

If Lagway pops, Florida could be dangerous and upset some folks next year.
