That's 25 years of garbage basketball.

Why do Indiana fans still think they're a blueblood? The evidence suggests that they're not even a top 3 Big 10 program during that span.

You may as well thrown Knight's last 5 years on the that pile and make it 30 years. Other than their miracle 2002unner-up run, they haven't had a great team since 1993 when they finished regular season #1 and had Cheaney, Evans, Henderson, Bailey and I think they lost in the Elite Eight. A decent team a couple of times in between but nothing equalling blue blood status.

They really fell off after the 1993 season. I think once or twice is all they’ve been past the sweet 16. And 2002 was a good run. But fluky. And that was 22 years ago.

Their 2012 team was good. Elite 8 team at least if not in UKs bracket IMO.

I was born in November 1987. I've never seen IU win a title and hope to die never seeing it.

IU's only blue blood status was when Knight was coach.

Ehhhh… we may not like it, but they are. The jersey and candy stripe pants are iconic. Like Golden Helmets for Notre Dame. I’m not saying that they are on our level, but Indiana is a basketball school.

I hate the Loosiers but I still think they are a blue blood regardless of the last 25 years. I know how passionate that fanbase is due to their very deep history dating all the way back to the early days of college basketball. Someday they will be back and I’m not against it. College basketball is best when the bluest of blue bloods are good, and a 5-time national champ with as much legacy as most programs is certainly a hole that college basketball feels imo.

They a football school now. Eh, I don't care to ever play them again after that debacle in 2012. I understand being excited to beat a blueblood rival but their fans were simply over the top crazy psychopaths. If by some mercy miracle Pope decides to renew then it should only be at a neutral site.

Not even close to top 3. Should have kept Samson.

The only one with a good percentage they ran out and hate with a passion

Weren't there talks of them going after Pearl after last season? He's 10x the coach Woodson is
Yeah but apparently their boosters and AD went straight to Woodson after Steven’s said no. Didn’t even consider Pearl. The offices are their real problem. They refuse to look outside of anyone “out of the box.” I think this comes from the “holier-than-thou” attitude instilled by Coach Knight. They won’t be successful until they break out of that box.

Before Knight, IU had 2 rather anomalous titles (40, 53) under McCracken, and not much else.

From 1938-39 (his first year) until Knight arrived (71-72), they won all of 6 Big 10 titles, had 8 losing seasons, and- aside from the two championship years- won a total of 3 NCAA tournament games, all of them in regional consolation rounds.

Then Knight arrived, and his first 16 years produced 3 titles and 4 Final Fours. Since then, two Final Fours in 33 years... and not much else.

The years before McCracken were even worse, with 13 losing seasons from the program's inception (1901) thru 1937, and only 3 Big 9/Big 10 titles.

IU was never a "power" program. Just a school that got lucky on a hire. They were basically U of San Fran before Knight

They had two great coaches that they haven’t been able to replicate.

They are, at worst, the 7th best program in CBB history. They have five national championships that occurred across four separate decades. They also have a national runner-up and eight final four appearances. They are top 10 in all-time wins. The same argument that Indiana isn’t a blue blood due to lack of recent success is the same thing you hear from people like Jay Williams about Kentucky. “They have won one title in the last 25 years. They are no longer a blue blood.” Indiana will always be royalty in CBB, as will Kentucky. Their fans need to start demanding a known successful coach and move on from the Woodson’s of the world because IU being good is good for CBB.

Truth. The truth hurts sometimes. But it’s still the truth.
