With Duke losing, If Virginia loses before Kentucky, leaving UK as the only undefeated team, that *should* give us breathing room that if we drop a game, we still remain #1 in the polls. The only thing is if Kentucky loses, they decide to bump VA and Duke ahead of us, as their single losses were further in the past. Can anyone clarify?

Doesn't sound like a big deal, but it goes a long way in us potentially going the entire season ranked #1.

Here's to hoping VA drops one soon, might even *gulp* have to root for Duke when they play..

If is pretty obvious the fraud Zags will jump to #1 if and when UK and UVA lose their first games.

That defies logic, but prepare yourself for it. The worst one loss team is number 1 because they lost earlier in the season. That would be like ranking a 1 loss Boise ST #1 in the coaches/ap poll in football.

The odd man out is UL still at 6, losing 2 of their last four. Not sure we would hold on to the six spot of we had lost those two.
This whole thing with UVA is getting annoying. I had no idea what a story it would be that UK is no longer unanimous? If that'sall ya got......

Im calling it right now. If Alabama doesnt beat UK, which I don't think they will, because they cant score, we aint losing.
Forget UVA ,they will have 3 or 4 Ls come the Dance.

By the way, I've been hearing lots of chatter about how tough Virginia's schedule has been. How do they get that? Maybe more games with RPI 100 as opposed to RPI 200 schools. But a good team playing well beats teams in either category.

Virginia has beaten Notre Dame and Maryland as ranked teams.

That is hardly comparable to beating Texas, Kansas, North Carolina, Providence and Louisville.
Thats what I was looking at as well:
31 JAN Duke come to town
2 FEB VA plays at UNC
7 FEB The Dirty Birds visit VA
11 FEB VA goes to NC State - a team that just beat Duke rather handily.

It doesn't work that way although it makes sense.

AP voters almost always drop the #1 at least 1 spot...it's more like king of the hill.

Not sure why this is so important. Winning Record. Win the conference. Win the tournament. No one remembers who was #1 the longest in any given year.

I'm still curious why everyone is still so high on UL. They beat a solid OSU and IU teams but that is all. What else have they done other than letting Harrell beat up on smaller/less athletic bigs? I think UL loses three or four more times before the tourney.

If they only have 5-6 losses heading into the NCAA Tourney that would be a good year for that bunch. They are not that good.

Agreed. And if either Harrell or Rozier are not on the court for a game, they are in BIG trouble. What's even more scary for UL fans is the thought of next year's squad w/Harrell, Rozier, Jones, and Blackshear (kinda scary) gone.

I couldnt care less if we are ranked #1 or not just sas long as remain the over all #1 seed for the tourney.
If we keep that then i say we have a great shot a #9. But it would be sweet to run the table start to finish.

We were clearly playing our best in the SEC tournament, still we lost 10 games going in to the NCAA tourney. It's hard to bitch about the seed.

As far as how far we'd drop or stay #1 after a loss, it would depend on who we lose to. If we drop one against a poor SEC team, it will obviously do more damage to our ranking than if we lose to a decent team. That's prob why UofL is still hanging on in the rankings. Lost to us and then a close one to UNC on the road. That said, their best win is OSU who just fell out of the rankings so they still lack a solid win. They really don't have one yet.

This isn't college football. If we lose 1 or 2 games we are still going to be a number 1 seed in the tournament. Not sure why it is that big of a deal. Yes it would be nice to be the #1 through the whole season. But the only thing that matters is winning a championship. The committee is going to do whatever they want no matter what, and will give us the toughest matchups regardless of record.

You are 100% correct. You know Kentucky fans, they just want it ALL. We are hoops greedy I guess one could say.

I know one thing if Virginia loses before the Cats do all the media will say that it is because they play in the tough ACC!
