I had to see this again...

Cal had a brilliant game plan for those guys.
Let Harrellson guard Sullinger 1 on 1 in the post and have the rest of the guys hound the perimeter. No double on Sullinger. That's how Ohio State killed folk that year.

Sullinger was a handful, and an excellent passer from the blocks. Soon as you doubled, he got the ball to the open guy. Not double teaming him was the only way to play effective team defense.

It didn't hurt that Harrellson held Sullinger to eight points. The rest of his 20 or so came against Jones or from the obligatory fouls refs had to call for Sullinger.

The Buckeyes had to earn every point the hard way. We had the plan and the guys stuck to it. It resulted in one of the great wins in Cal's tenure here.

Going into the game it was a huge mismatch for OSU. It was a big ask to ask Jorts to guard JS 1 on 1. Jorts just happened to play the best game of his life that day. And what a game it was

It was a huge risk, but it was the only viable option. If you helped off, Sullinger would find the open guy. He'd done it all season, to great effect.
