Many Kentucky fans are historians of the sport. We remember when being a #1 seed in the tournament meant you were usually a great team and that the big boys used to blow out the lesser teams. More often than not a #1 seed would be in the final game. Everyone talks about how college basketball is down as a sport but look who played for a national championship last year . .

#7 seed UCONN v. #8 seed Kentucky

Had I not seen it with my own eyes I would have thought that kind of match-up would never happen in my lifetime. UCONN lost by 40 to Louisville and lost to them three times before the tournament.

It is interesting that if college basketball is down and a few teams have most of the talent that there are so many close games right now between the supposed haves and have nots.

We must face facts that the good teams are younger - they may be more talented on paper but there is reasons 16 year old kid lose to their 50 year old Dads in the driveway. Experience counts for something. Not saying that teams of 5 seniors are better than the young teams but teams that have been through the battles together are more likely to pull off the upset. When I watch NC St and Ole Miss and Tex A&M I see weaker teams on paper but teams that are FEARLESS. They are not afraid and these young kids that have not been through the battles sometimes blink and blink often. I really think we are missing a verteran tough player like Poythress more than we ever thought we would. It may also explain why are Freshman are stepping up because they are fearless at times because they don't know any better.
