I would like to make an entry on behalf of my father. Capt., Army, Korea 1950-1954. 187th RACT ''Rakkasan" initially, then moved to 7th I.D. There, he earned 2 silver stars, 3 bronze stars all with V device, 2 Purple Hearts. He returned to infantry after healing from both GSW. 2 combat jump stars on his jump wings. 6 battle stars on his Korean Service medal. He ended his military service with 503rd PIR. He was a true warrior.

Jay, That is a remarkable service record. You've every reason to be proud. I knew several Korean vets in my early days. One had been a POW for several months.

You would never have known he served though. He never talked about. The only reference was a Rakkasan bumper stick on his car. I discussed his service with a Special Forces officer recently, and he said, "that Korea. That was a bbaaadddd place. "

Thank you for your kind comments.

As a vet myself, thank you to all have served and also, thanks to everyone from BBN showing their support and appreciation to all the vets and those currently serving our blessed country.

USAF 1983- 1991
6 weeks in San Antonio getting yelled at
10 months at Biloxi getting trained at
2 years in Augsburg, GE as a computer maint. tech.
5 years in Abilene, TX as an avionics tech. on the B-1B Bomber (a SAC trained killer, LOL!)

It was an awesome 8 years of my life, met some great, hardworking, and dedicated people.

The two years in Germany may have been the best 2 years of my life (do not tell my wife!) LOL!. When I began my tour there I was 21. I bought a 9 yr. old canary yellow Mercedes, 230.6S I think. Probably one of, if not the, most overinflated opinions of myself is when I drove that baby off the lot. LOL!

Last 5 years was at Dyess AFB in Tejas working on the flight line fixing B1's. It may be a dry heat, but 102 is a freaking 102! We worked our asses off, and managed to occasionally party our asses off too.

I was very lucky in that I did not have to serve in a time of war. My thanks to all veterans, and also a special appreciation for those that protected their country and it's beliefs with the ultimate service.

Thank you to all who have served. Without you, we wouldn't have what we do.

Also, thanks to all of you who have had family members who served - it's a great sacrifice to have a loved one do what he/she has to do to protect and serve our country.

USN '71-'76; dad was a young sailor at Pearl Harbor, lost his cousin on the Nevada. The greatest generation.

I should have added to my original post that my brother also served. He was Air Force and served flying F-100's for a year in Vietnam. He died in the cockpit of an F-4 in September 1972. He was a very good man that loved his country.

US Army Medical Corp 2002 - 2006, signed the papers 1 week after the planes hit our towers.
