Happy Birthday Jamal Mashburn

Jamal Mashburn was my first basketball jersey. He was special. Never have I had my heart broken the way it was when UK lost to the Fab Five in the Final Four.

My mom went out years ago when I was a kid and bought specialty cards with Mashburn and surprised me on Christmas morning with a whole collection of Mashburn Kentucky cards.

I’m 48 so he was prime fandom for me as a high school student. He was so good inside and outside. Sucks knee problems impacted his NBA career.

And an even better businessman. Took his money and made even more money. Such a smart dude!
I’m also 48. Kenny Walker was my first favorite player but Mash is probably my all-time favorite. Still occasionally watch that first 5 minute obliteration the 1993 team put on Wake Forest in the tournament.

Happy Birthday
Dr. Mash.

Mashburn was a man among Boys and one of if not my favorite KY Basketball players. I’ve got some decent KY gear but by far the most compliments are when I wear the throwback Mashburn jersey. Found out last night while watching New Mexico and Arizona St that his Son had transferred to Temple. Would love to have seen the kid in Blue

I’ll never forget that shot chart. Rick refused to zone them and Webber and Howard killed us.

My all time favorite. I remember before they played wake forest in the ncaa tournament, the announcers were debating who the best player was between Mashburn and Rodney Rogers of Wake Forest. Mashburn started the game on fire, hitting from all over and UK jumped out to I think 33-6 lead and rolled to easy win over a good Wake team. I doubt too many was questioning it after that performance

Pitino helped him invest in Papa Johns and Outback franchises. Dude owns DOZENS of them.
