Everyone of you can call him a bust. I don't give a F. The only opinion that matters to me is my own. I've seen improvement and I think he's going to finish strong. He's worked his ass off and hasn't given up. That earns points with me.

He's probably a bust but, to Vern's point, Boston has at least played. The bigger 'bust' at this point is our 7-game stud who (per Jon's site), crushed it during his brief career at 43% from the field, made nearly 25% of his 3's and nearly half of his free throws.

When the University of Kentucky aka The Roman Empire of College Basketball calls I’m sure Beard’s reaction will be along the lines of ... Nah, I’m good. I’m content with riding out the prime of my career in Lubbock. Thanks for calling.
That mother ****er is gonna take the first elite job offered to him if it’s anywhere in the same ball park of his current salary. Just a matter of time.

And for the record, there is a world where Skal gets to play a pick and pop big rather than being force fed in the post for a season and is actually pretty decent, not top 5 recruit decent, but certainly serviceable. Heck, the kid has been hanging around NBA rosters for years.

Wait, now we are calling Boston a bust? In college?

18-20 year old kid?

Hey, Boston has been no John Wall but regardless.

He's a bust because he will be gone in a month.

Kenny Walker was a bust too by today's standards set on Freshmen.

Hell, Todd May was getting as many minutes as Kenny before Todd bolted in December.

There's also a world where Boston gets to play in a normal season on a team with a few returning players. If Boston got to play with Ulis and Murray, he'd be much better.

You sound like a 70/80’s pot dealer with shitty bud.

So if a player could've in theory been not that bad, or if you can think of a player in history who was worse, they are not a bust.

Boston is a bust. He's a top 5 recruit, he hasn't had one single memorable moment, he's been awful and the team has crumbled around him. Stop over-thinking this.

I'm ready to die on this hill.

As you should be.

You can’t criticize Calipari all year long for running off players while simultaneously calling a true freshman a bust 18 games into his college career. That’s absurd.

If Boston came back next year, or even **gasp** played here 3-4 years, I think he’d be fantastic. He sucks right now, but we should encourage that, not write him off entirely halfway thru his freshman year.

What's up with all the sports writers and reporters dying lately?

And why couldn't it have been Pat Forde, Dana O'Neill, Seth Davis, and Pete Thamel instead of Pedro Gomez, Mel Antonen and such?

And why did Lost never solve the mystery of the smoke monster?

I know Boston has been a disappointment overall, but I see a guy who is steadily improving. Yes, he's a putrid 15/60 from three on the year, but in his last 6 games he's 8/20. He hit a few of those late in last night's game during the comeback. His confidence is rising.

You say he's only had one double double but he's a small forward. They aren't exactly known for collecting double doubles at the college level, especially freshmen. But he's putting up a respectable 5 rpg. He has 96 total rebounds with 65 defensive and 31 offensive, showing he's crashing the boards at both ends.

He's averaging a notch under 12 ppg but in his last 6 he has had games of 18, 18 and 17. He's shooting more confidently. He's reacting more quickly on offense, making more decisive drives. He showed last night he can finish an And 1 through a tough foul. He's also making 78% from the stripe.

Has he been disappointing? Yes.
Do I think his ranking was overrated? Yes.

But I'm not going to call him a bust. He's a freshman who's leading his team in scoring. He spends more time in the gym than anyone on the team, per everyone. He hasn't given up unlike some of his fellow blue chip classmates. I think his improved play will continue and we'll/he'll finish the season strong. Call me Larry David. I'll keep the Captain company.

But he was ranked number 5!

I applaud how Boston has handled his disappointing season but he’s probably #2 after Skal for biggest bust. Both were needed, too. May be tough but it comes along with the Sierra Canyon and Kentucky choices. Hope he continues to get better.
