...brought on by the coaching scandals. (SIAP...hadn't seen it. From Jim Rome.)

He doesn't name names and speaks...let's just say...carefully.

A couple of quotes:

“I’m really saddened by it,” Marshall told The Jim Rome Show. “I know a couple of these gentlemen, and they’re super nice guys, and they’ve been good to me, but I just think that it gives all of us a bad name and people think ‘Well, everyone is doing that in college basketball,’ and that’s simply not the case.”

“I think that sometimes these guys get a little greedy and think it’s not just good enough to be in the top 15 or 20 or top 10 maybe, but I got to win it all and in order to do that, I got to get the absolute best player and sometimes they take short cuts to do that,” Marshall said. “So it’s unfortunate, and honestly, it’s not a victimless crime. There are coaches that get fired because they don’t win, because they can’t keep up with these guys.”

Well I certainly can't vouch for Greg Marshall, that's for certain. He seems a decent fellow. Before I knew Rick Pitino had allowed prostitutes to be hired to lure recruits to Louisville, I already knew he wasn't a decent fellow. So, Marshall seems to be in a position to comment.

The first thought I have here is the fans of UL and UNC use this mantra "everyone does it" as a means to excuse the terrible behavior of their programs and coaches, and that's ridiculous. I hope I would have the integrity to speak the truth even when it's not convenient, and even when it could damage my favorite program. It seems integrity is in short supply these days.

And he's right that other coaches are victims in this, whether it be UNC's fake classes or Louisville's prostitutes for recruits, the guys who don't cheat can't compete without cheating. And that is a shame. If the NCAA doesn't make an example of these two programs, it will make the situation even worse. But that's exactly what both coaches and programs believe- that they've gotten away with it and the NCAA will never touch their programs because they're cash cows. It seems UNC has already gotten away with it, and UL thinks they'll skate by too. And the honest coaches have no reason to remain honest.

I'm sure Louisville fans will say Calipari does the same things, but that's sour grapes talking. There is no reason to believe anything of the sort. And I will add this, too. If the academic fraud and prostitution that had happened in these instances were to happen at UK, or anything of the sort, I would condemn it outright. These folks justifying this junk look foolish and desperate in the process.

You hit it with those nine words. I can't for the life of me figure out how character and integrity has seemed to drop off the face of the earth. (Don't get me wrong there are still plenty of good, decent people out there.) It used to be you could leave your house key with your neighbor if you were going on a trip to watch your house. Heck if I'd do that now. I trust my neighbor to a point.

I can't imagine what coaches go through on the recruiting trail where it was rough anyway keeping up with the glitz. I guess even coaches trust other coaches....to a point. It has been better on the trust and ethics trail. Hopefully it swings full circle and we all can again be....trustful and trust-worthy.
