Elam was never in condition,but none of those 340lb guys ever look like they are. IMO, Elam's issue was more about flexibility or lack of, He wasn't blessed with it naturally and was never able to gain enough to be effective.

Grump...MS made a point in talking about Elam one day and the fact that for a man his size he could sit and cross his legs like Indians do and how flexible he was. Heard that on the radio for what it's worth. Think Matt's was more in his chest and between his ears. Don't know.

they also had injury issues as the season progressed and were playing walk-ons as starters some games
