Goose Called It

Basketball season in KY.

People marking him as our savior are about to be extremely depressed. That kid has zero bounce, and will not be a difference maker on defense. Better hope Z gets cleared, and is a better option. Also, Cal gets the kid in the game, and immediately starts posting him. The end result is 73 points. We are back on our normal schedule with this moron.
Yeah. I like Bradshaw and am glad he’s back. I’ve just never bought into the hype with him. I would much rather have Ugo/Z in the lineup. At least Ugo can block shots and rebound. Same with Z.

No excuse for losing this game...NONE...This loss rates up there with Evansville, inexcusable..Defense was atrocious..Great teams do not lose at home especially to mid major patsies.
We seem to be losing these types of games every year for the last few years. There seems to be a pattern.

Awful defense. This is a game where you actually try a zone to see if it throws the opponent off. If it doesn’t help, at least you’ve tried. But Cal won’t even put a zone in his package. That’s negligent.
I thought about that too but I think they would have shot us out of it. We lost the game with poor game prep. The mental side of it. Seems as if they read their press clippings too long. They basically F’d around and found out.

The team is as talented as it was during the Miami game where we were all pumped and excited. But they didn’t show up to play. That’s on the coach. I still think it’s a good squad. But they better not fall asleep at the wheel again

What every other coach in America would have done is substitute Bradshaw for Mitchell, and keep everything else the same, offensively. But no, Cal has to reinvent the wheel.
Yeah, he made it square, so it goes slower, and the road is bumpy regardless.

Big Z will definitely be better on defense. He's really what we need. He's an elite rim protector.

I think you are a Cal pumper, despite what you say. Your posts in the last ten minutes reveal the truth on this matter.
Just like the world today, you are all about division. Who cares if one likes our coach or not? I'm no Cal pumper either but you got issues, man. Do you wear brown shirts?

If you all listened to the game on the radio, a few minutes before the tip Goose said he was really concerned about this game. He said he thought UNCW was really good and that they probably overlooked their last game whereas we may be on a high from Miami.

I haven't been a Cal fan since the Maxey season - and even that was a little rough. But I really feel like this one wasn't so much on Cal (other than poor lack of adjustments on D). We just had 1/2 of our team play like garbage.
Isn't that part of a coaches job....to keep the players focused??

So if you were the coach you would have complete control over Rob?
Rob being Rob is what gave us a chance against Kansas.
Didn't workout tonight and Cal didn't have DJ.
I thought Mitchell got his regular looks from deep he just wasn't as accurate tonight.
I really don't think it was coaching malpractice to try to establish Tre in the post against a team like Wilmington. It's not like he was asking him to score on a 7 footer.
Don't you think we at least need to attempt to establish a post game or do you think we need to completely sell out to the pick and pop offense from our 5 men?
Modern offense or no modern offense, I just don't see this team playing 5 out and scorching the nets for 6 games in a row to win a title.
I would have control over his minutes. And after a few failed attempts of playing Mitchell in the paint I would’ve gone back to what my team has been excelling at all season long.

We just lost to UNCW at home my guy. There’s no excuse for that. They lost by 30 to Appalachian St on their own home court. Cal failed, again, to do what he gets paid $9 million a year to do. Wake up.

Ain’t broke don’t fix. Lineup was clicking and then we get a new big to muck up the works.
Wait till Cal has 2 bigs, he can’t wait to play them together to clog up the middle and really slow the game down. Hold the ball for 20 seconds then have DJ drive and throw one up if it doesn’t go the bigs clean up. CAL 101

I’m almost terrified to see what happens if we have Big Z and Ugo available.

This loss is on Cal. He should’ve reigned Edwards and Dillingham back and adjusted his offense to get Reed and Reeves more looks. He also should’ve utilized Mitchel on the perimeter, like he has all season thus far, instead of trying to force him to be a back to the basket player this game.

Cal’s game plan for this game was way off and he failed to make critical adjustments during the game, again.
To be fair Reeves has no problems jacking up some dumb shots. I love when he utilizes his midrange game but sometimes he takes some really dumb shots.

Bradshaw, imo, is not a 5. He’s a passive stretch 4.

I agree. And I did hear his defense and overall effort wasn’t there. But looking at the box score he still shot it very efficiently. I wish Cal would have a box score guy so he could feed the hot hand. Honestly he shouldn’t need someone for that but I think he does

This thread makes no sense lol. Cal of course is responsible for the loss. Hes literally the coach. And yes he is responsible for wins as well. What happens either way is on him (unless it's a ref screw job which does happen occasionally unfortunately)

We looked like the 2017 Golden St Warriors on Tuesday. If you blame Cal for Saturday you have to give him props for Tuesday.

That's why it's hard to pin yesterday on him. I'm no Cal pumper either. I wanted him gone after last season. But thanks to Welch, we are a better team. And I don't buy the Cal nonsense that we have shooters now. He's never spread the floor like he has this season, even with his best teams from years past. I just feel yesterday was the direct result of a young team who was listening to the noise. They clearly overlooked the opponent and Bradshaw had nothing to do with it. We were thoroughly outplayed at every facet of the game. And no zone or play calls would've changed that. It was what it was. Time to move on to the next game.

I'm sure our players knew they lost by 30 also.
You could tell the first 5 min of the game that the energy wasn't there.
Rob was off for sure but with DJ out and Reeves picking up fouls it would have been hard to park him on the bench.
Mitchell in the post didn't look that bad on paper I guess considering the opponent but maybe it showed it he has no business being posted up.

The offense definitely looked like what we’ve seen in the past but you can’t put that on Bradshaw, It’s 100 percent on Cal. Now, was he trying to just add to this teams toolbox with this or is this going back to his old ways? Time will tell.

Secondly, the days of not showing up and still winning are pretty much over in college basketball. The talent gap isn’t what it once was. If the effort and motivation isn’t there on D on a given night, high probability that’s going to be a loss. The name on the jersey is irrelevant for the most part.
