Giles announcing at Oak Hill (Virginia) and not in North Carolina

Cal is working on a trio of Monk, Fox and Giles. It could be happening right before our eyes, how amazing would that be? Those 3 guys plus Gabriel? Wow, that would be the bed class of all time.
Cal had said that 2016 would be the best class ever. [thumb2]

From Jerry Meyer - interesting thought and one that actually makes a lot of sense -

Calipari watching Giles could also be viewed as a leveraged move with Jarrett Allen. A five-star big man from Austin, Texas, Allen is visiting Kentucky this weekend while Giles is scheduled to announce November 14.

I still think he's going to Duke. Has any recruiting expert/guru actually mentioned any movement toward UK? Usually by now you hear something.

Even with Bridges, whom we lost at the last minute in the process, you still heard rumblings that Michigan State had gained significant ground.

I doubt Kentucky needs to play 'leverage' games with Allen. If he gets an unconditional offer to Kentucky and doesn't take it, he's not the kind who'd flourish "when the popcorn is popping."

Yeah, i don't think Allen is necessary... Is Cal even considering him. We are kind of loaded inside. Humphries is legit, and year will make a huge difference. You already have SKJ.

Coach Cal visiting Giles is one reason only, he wants Giles. I don't think there's much more to it than that.

This just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

You aren't going to tell a 2nd choice recruit he needs to hurry up and take an offer by visiting the #1 player in the country. We're "Considering" Giles. This visit reaffirms that to him? If he acts now, are we going to not consider Giles? It's just weak logic to me.

And then, say IT IS a leverage move. Say Cal is hoping this visit pushes the kid to commit. What happens if/when Giles goes to Duke?

I would think, if anything, Allen thinking we still have a chance at landing Giles would make him less likely to commit before Giles makes his announcement.

I don't have any insider information and its probably going to be Duke, but with Cal recruiting this kid so hard, I still think we have a shot. It's obvious Duke will end up with a great class no matter what, but if you look at the rankings, Giles added with the guys we are most likely to get would be an all time great class. If Giles goes to Duke, its going to be an awesome class, but I'm not sure it would be considered all time great. When you look at a potential class of Fox, Monk, Gabriel, Jones, and Giles, that is a class that could rival any class in history in terms of recruiting ratings and talent. That class would pretty much be the starting 5 from day 1. You would have the top pg, top SG, top 3 sf, top 5pf and 1 c. I would love to see it happen while crushing Duke's plans of potential #1 class of the year. You never know when it comes to Cal at recruiting so I refuse to give up all hope just yet. If he goes to Duke, it means everyone was right all along and it was the worst kept secret in the recruiting world.

Cal doesn't seem like a guy who waste time or effort on a lost cause. I think he believes he has a chance

I used to try and glean info from every move a recruit made but it became clear to me that these little moves usually mean nothing . When you are scanning for a hint then everything becomes info , it ends up being over analyzation . There's nothing to lose for UK because we have been the predicted 2nd choice all along , Duke has a lot more to lose in this situation .

you mean the same Cal who admitted his staff tried talking him into stop recruiting lost causes two years ago but still wanted to try for them? Giles is going to Duke..... but Cal isn't giving up.

The optimistic portions in this thread...

What are the reasons that most seem so sure he's going to Duke? I wonder if everyone sounding so convinced is convincing others that that is what's going to happen. I just haven't really heard any sort of reasoning like he got the Duke haircut or a prior connection to a member of the coaching staff.

The reason most often given are that he is best friends with Tatum and that Coach K has been invited to 2 of Giles' birthday parties.

Cal has said many times that 80% of what you hear in recruiting is 100% false.
So there's that.

Still could be, but he also said that when UK felt pretty confident about Bridges. Of course, one could make the argument that Gabriel and Bridges were mutually exclusive, and that Gabriel came to UK as a result of Bridges heading elsewhere.

Every analyst in the country has Giles leaning heavily to Duke with a wink wink as if they know it's a done deal.

That's why I wouldn't bother even watching the announcement.

Well, there are some glaring reasons why people are thinking he is Duke bound and the big reason is location and where he is from. Being that close to Duke is a big reason. Coach K has a big advantage being that close with Duke folk all around Giles. Add in the fact that one of his best friends has already committed to Duke and you get people thinking Giles to Duke. I think its pretty clear to see why some are confident that Duke will get him. Now, I have no clue where he will end up. I'm only answering your question as to why most seem sure he is Duke bound.

Personally, I don't think Cal would still be recruiting him so hard if he was sure he was Duke bound. Not to say he won't end up at Duke but I think Cal believes he has a decent shot at getting him or he wouldn't be recruiting him like he is still. I don't believe in the whole idea about coaches still recruiting players because of future players coming down the road. I think that's a bunch of crap. Coaches' time is too precious to spend recruiting a kid you know is going elsewhere just for the slim chance that another elite recruit comes down the road. Just don't buy into all that but I like to think we still have a chance with Giles.

I think we land allen and fox and monk. not bad 5 FIVE STARS .

Could be enough to get peoples hopes up before they come crashing down and everyone is disappointed and upset!

Yeah just assume he ain't gonna be cat, then be surprised if he does. Best approach after jaylen brown chose not UK

No you would not. We would have one of our most talented teams ever next year if Giles picks duke as expected

Matt Jones now only thinks we have a 10-20% chance compared to 40% he's had for a couple of weeks now after talking to folks around the program last night.
