Isn't the northeast corner of Tennessee closer to Canada than it is to Memphis, Tennessee?
 
As the crow flies it is 395 miles from Bristol to Windsor, Ontario. It's 502 to Memfuss. Pretty much the same distance to drive to Memfuss, but about 65 miles more to drive to Windsor.

The same can be said of Ashland/Paducah/Windsor.

Ashland is 50 mi closer to Windsor than Paducah.
 
Northern border of Texas closer to Canadian border (manitoba) than southern most point in Texas.

It's a farther distance when you measure diagonally from corner to corner of Montana than it is from the Canadian to Mexican borders.
 
Isn't there a part of Kentucky cut off by the Mississippi River where you have to go through Tennessee or Missouri to get to it?

A piece of Minnesota called "The Northwest Angle" can only be reached by car in summer by going into Canada first.

Summer access by boat or plane is possible without crossing the border.

In winter cars can also drive across a frozen lake while remaining in the US

No border guards are posted, you simply stop at the local General Store and call the country your entering to declare.
