It's been a long week (for me anyway) but we've made it to Thursday. UK and Florida lace them up tonight at 7 on the SEC Network. This is the second week in a row that UK has a Thursday thru Saturday series and it is another tough one. Florida is coming off a series win against Vanderbilt and they are starting to look like the team they were projected to be to start the year.
Florida likely starts Franco Aleman tonight. Interestingly, Florida pitching has struggled this year. It was believed that Florida would have an absolute stud of a pitching staff, but that just hasn’t come to fruition. Aleman has started on 5 Fridays and carries a 5.05 ERA in league play. Tommy Mace starts in game 2 and he’s also struggling this year with a 5.77 ERA. Hunter Barco is likely to go on Sunday and he has done the best with a 4.14 ERA in 7 starts. So, 2 of UK’s starters have better ERAs overall than 2 of the Florida pitchers. As a team, in conference, Florida has a team ERA of 4.82 while UK’s is 4.40. Still, overall, Florida does a pretty solid job of limiting damage. Opponents only hit .264 against them in conference and Florida has outscored opponents 128 to 114.

With the sticks, UF has done better in terms of average hitting .271 while UK is hitting .261. UF averages about 6 runs a game while UK averages about 5.5, so pretty similar there. An interesting thing is that UK hits .261 but opponents have hit .284 against UK’s pitching. Florida has hit better than its opponents while UK hasn’t. That is concerning for UK.

All in all, should be an interesting series. UK is coming off a tough weekend while Florida is riding high after a huge series win at home against Vandy. Florida has climbed their way into something like 6th in the league while UK is sitting around something like 10th. UK needs to steal at least one win in this series to keep their post season dreams alive. There hasn't been a sweep in the series since 2005.

I think we can get 1 win............I hope.

Gotta have it. Need to find 4 more wins in 9 games against UF, USC, and Vandy. Don't get at least 1 win this weekend and we're basically sunk because the odds of getting 4 in 6 are really long.

Definitely need at least one win, and I think we really need to win the series. Our NCAA hopes seem to be fading. We need to win either the UF series or the USC series to get in, IMO.

Without a doubt. There is debate on this, but it is something to the effect of if you get 14 wins in conference you at least have about a 50/50 shot of getting into the tournament. 13 wins or less and your chances are basically 0. So, UK has to get 4 more to have any shot. Some have even said that it is actually 15 wins where it becomes 50/50. So, our odds may even be lower than we think even if we do get to 14. Without winning this series or the next it will pretty much be impossible to get to 14. I mean, let's be real... not a snowball's chance in hell we sweep Vandy.

I think 4 is about the best we can do. Personally I think we get 3, and that’s going to be tough.

Stupp gives up a two out walk but gets 3 pretty easy outs to get out of the first.

Rhodes doubled with 2 outs but UK can't do anything with it. 0-0 going to the 2nd.

Good defense for UK in the top. Estep with a scoop at third and thew out the runner on the move, Lewis showed the range but threw the ball away trying to hit Stupp running to the bag and Collett caught a line drive to double off the runner and the the inning

Lewis gets a hit and steals second with 2 outs but that's where he stays.

0-0 going to 3

Estep led the UK third off with a walk, but Schultz, Collett and Rhodes all go in order behind him.

0-0 going to 4.

Seeing eye single and a grounder to no where near first before Lewis fists one to left.

Bases loaded and 1 out for Hill...

Hill first pitch swinging and he hits in 2 on a single to right.

2-0 UK

Estep grounds out to second, but that moves Hill to third. He'll be a threat to score on anything that gets by the catcher.

Schultz hit by a pitch off the arm and he steals 2nd on a delayed steal.

Collett strikes out and they cant throw him out at first and it scores Hill. Schultz is thrown out at home also trying to score. 4-0 UK going to the 5th

They reviewed and did confirm Schultz as out. UK not happy that the pitcher was blocking the plate. It was a good play by him. Stuck his foot out and kept Schultz from getting his arm out to the plate.

UK came to play. Great defense once again sits Florida down in order.

Kessler singles and advances to second on a FC by Anu. Ritter rips one up the middle to score him.

5-0 UK

Lewis reaches on a bunt single and then steals second to put them at 2nd and 3rd. UK then tries it again and Hill is out at first.

5-0 going to the 6th

Silly decision to bunt Hill who had just roped one the previous at bat.

Double into the right center gap to start the Florida 6th. Grounder to first moves him over. Sacfly to Rhodes puts UF on the board. Hill runs down a deep fly to end the UF half.

5-1. 6th

Schultz singles with 1 out. Collett goes down looking. Rhodes grounds out to third.

A double and a single up the middle but UF holds the runner at 3rd.

A fly ball and then a sac puts them on the corners. Stupp at 94. Florida has hit it hard often but they haven't gotten that huge hit. Full count, 2 on, 2 out. Stupp walks him. Bases loaded 2 outs. 9 hole up.

Stupp still pitching pretty well at 105 pitches but it's another full count... bases loaded 2 outs... walked him. Was up but couldn't finish.

5-3 top 7

Lewis shaded up the middle and UF hits it right at where he would normally play. They score 2.

5-5 runners on the corners

Diving catch by Rhodes ends the inning and keeps it tied at 5 going to bottom 7
