There is no scenario where an usher would even request that someone sit simply because they are standing and cheering and another fan wants them to sit down.

A friend has access to GREAT lower arena seats. I used to get them for the non marquee games. I was standing up and cheering a great dunk and the rich lady behind me said " Sit down". I replied " stand up ". Never was offered the seats again.

I went to the swamp for the LSU vs UF game this year. It was an amazing atmosphere, extremely loud and the fans didn't take a single play off. What surprised me was that the fans sat most of the time. The fans would stand after a huge play, but that was it. It was nice to see the action and not have stand.
And yet we do not have the “dullest atmosphere in all of college sports,” particularly for big time matchups when Rupp is arguably the best in all of college basketball. Now, I fully realize there will be a segment of individuals in this thread who have the opinion that Rupp is always dull, mainly because they seem to believe unless 23,000 are standing and screaming their heads off for 40 minutes while UK destroys Popcorn State, then then the Rupp crowd is dull.
All I know is if you attend any given game, you will see there are probably 22,980 fans in the arena who are clearly sensible about how they conduct themselves, and they have a great time doing so… and then there are occasionally a small handful of individuals scattered amongst the crowd who seem to conduct themselves otherwise. Even among that small segment, the vast majority of them, when asked politely to not unnecessarily block the view of others, are reasonable and adjust accordingly. It’s really only a tiny few who want to interfere with the experience of others just for the sake of being contrary.

I mean… you can have your opinion, but this does occur. I have witnessed it in the rare occasions some individuals are just rude and inconsiderate of their fellow fans. Ushers have been asked to address it, and they do. Again, don’t alter scenarios. We’re not talking about standing and cheering for a great play or run when most to the crowd will be up and cheering. We’re talking about standing and obstructing the view of others just for the sake of standing.

Head in sand. Dull Rupp Arena has been a common criticism for 20 years. Now that might be your speed and the way you like it, but let’s not act like it’s not a common criticism for a very valid reason.

Maybe they should have heights when they sell tickets. Shorter fans get the closer seats and it gets progressively taller heading up.
Always surprised at the lack of self awareness involved when one person is the only one standing in their section and both adjacent sections. That happened a few games ago. Didn’t impact me, but a father asked him to sit down so his son could see. The guy standing was the stereotypical hill jack and acted like an ass. He sat down though.

Exactly. We stand for appropriate times like stated by a poster above. However, we had a guy stand even during timeouts when other things were happening such as the half court $10,000 shot and other times when nothing much was going on during the game. Maybe it was even this radio call in guy. If we stood to see over him then we would be blocking the view of others behind us and that's just not right. As I said, I stand quite often during the appropriate times but just to stand because you feel you have the right to since you paid for your seat (stated reason by guy in front of us) during any part of the game or timeouts just because you want to is just plain dumb, in my book. The radio guy probably didn't explain why he was standing and why others felt it was wrong. Some of you all just "assume" it's because of age of others. Sorry, wrong take, there are rude people out there who don't give a damn about others.
Your last sentence is the issue I have with the way you're attempting to represent the way things work at Rupp.
Standing and cheering, even for entire segments of the game, isn't something that will ever be addressed by the ushers. I've been to numerous games in the lower level over the years and never seen anything of the sort. It's simply not something that warrants their attention.
Now, if someone is being belligerent toward other fans, that's a different story. But that would be the case regardless of if that person is standing or sitting.
KSR is the first to tell you the crowd atmosphere at Rupp is very bad except for big games.
They list the best as the SEC tournament, then road games where #BBN gets in, and then Rupp.
