FBI probe news involving Kansas player de Sousa

If Kansas didn't know this stuff was happening, they are some dumb people who have astounding luck recruiting.

Considering the staff, it might be possible.

I get that people are highly cynical concerning the NCAA after the UNC-CHeats debacle. And rightly so. It is a corrupt, toothless, inept organization.

BUT -- There is a difference here. The FBI has put its reputation on the line with the high-profile press conferences and the naming of people as formerly prominent as Rick Pitino. The Bureau HAS to come out with a round of charges and a report that justifies all this effort. And when that report says that De Sousa (among others) went to Kansas simply because money was paid to keep him from Maryland and to push him there, he cannot possibly escape being ruled to have received impermissible benefits. The NCAA won't have any option of saying "this was up to the university to set the standards for what was a proper class." It is straight forward pay-to-play.

And any game he played in will be forfeited. The only hope for Kansas is that somehow this money missed his mother and "godfather." But that seems highly unlikely. And remember, the 'father' loophole that let Cam Newton slide has been fixed. Family getting money is the same as the player.

It didn’t make any difference with the 10k, flight tickets to LA, extravagant birthday parties etc that Rodney Blackstock the runner turned agent for 1 yr of Ben McLemore. The coach who had Ben said he paid bills etc for Ben’s mother with some of the 10k, the rest all happened while Ben was at Kansas. Nothing happened. Hell, Blackstock had McLemores “poor” mother with him for away games. An agent with benefits!

The only "proof" comes from the word of someone trying to get out of charges brought against him. Very akin to the credibility of a jailhouse snitch. Also, the lead investigator was pulled from this case because of his own corruption.

Also, say it is true and a shoe company agent paid a guardian, the school wasn't involved directly like Louisville or Arizona, is the NCAA going to discriminately going to punish one school when every school in the NCAA (basketball and football) get players whose handlers have accepted cash?

Wasn't Bam Adebayo mentioned in one of the FBI reports that came out which listed numerous college players for infractions?

This is from the Miami Herald:

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/heat-check/article201742199.html

The document lists Adebayo as having received a $36,500 payment, which is listed as “bad loan.” Adebayo never signed with ASM Sports.

So, is Kentucky going to vacate the games he played in? Is the $15K alleged in De Sousa's case fact without proof, but this one is made up? Do you see the hypocrisy?
Hey dummy, the payment Bam supposedly received wasn’t an incentive to go to UK unlike DeSousa to Kansas. Are you so ignorant that you can’t see the irony that Billy Preston and DeSousa both were named in the initial FBI investigation? And Kansas claimed they were “victims”. Man, you need to take that weak sauce somewhere else. Your crooked arse coach will get his comeuppance soon.

A payment from an agent is an NCAA violation. Regardless of the intent. Both payments are allegations, both if true are violations. I'm saying there is no evidence that either took place, yet you want to crucify KU and excuse it for KY?

http://sports.usatoday.com/2018/03/...am-adebayo-and-sports-agent-had-a-10768-meal/

"The meal, which took place around the NBA Players Association’s Top 100 Camp — in which Adebayo participated as a high school recruit — cost $107.68, including an $18 tip, according to the expense report.

Through his agent, Adebayo denied to Yahoo being present for the meal.

“The significance of this meeting is how seemingly insignificant it was,” Yahoo reporters Pat Forde, Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel wrote. “It was dinner; a good dinner, but not some glitzy wining and dining. There is no evidence of bags of cash or new cars or anything you might see in a movie. There is no suggestion Pina was steering Adebayo to any school (he was uncommitted at the time but later attended the University of Kentucky for the 2016-17 season before becoming a first-round draft pick of the Miami Heat). Adebayo never even signed with ASM.

Adebayo was first tied to the investigation when Yahoo reported he was one of several players included on an ASM balance sheet that appeared to list loans to players. The document listed “BAM” for a $12,000 expense from the agency. Yahoo also reported another document from the investigation attributed $36,500 to Adebayo with the notation, “2017 draft. Not signed. Bad loan.”

Meeting with an agent is not against NCAA rules so long as the player does not receive any benefits."

As usual, the typical Kansas loser runs over here, with his “OMG BOOBIES! GUYS I’M TOTALLY NOT GAY CUZ I HAVE BOOBIES IN MY AVATAR! GUYS GUYS I LIKE GIRLS!”, to tell us what a great and clean ship Self runs.

That reads as if the agent incurred $12,000 in expenses related to trying to sign Adebayo and that he loaned $36,500 to Adebayo but did not get the agreement signed, so the cash is non-recoverable.

My first post in this thread was meant as a joke. If you scroll up from that post, you will see I copied word for word an earlier post.

I'm saying there is no evidence that either took place
So the payments to Preston and DeSousa were rumors with nothing to substantiate said payments? Just a coincidence they both ended up in Kansas? Shut up dude. You’re ignorant.

I don't understand your point. A payment is a payment. Both are against NCAA rules. Both have zero evidence that they occurred. One is lauded as 100% truth because it involves KU. One is 100% false, because it involves KY. I get it. It's fun to make fun of KU. :)

Let me spell it out for you slow boy. Bill Self uses Adidas to steer players to Kansas.

Report: Feds seeking more information regarding KU forward Silvio De Sousa

According to reports, the subpoena sent to Maryland on June 29, 2018, requested information on, "the recruitment, eligibility and/or amateur status" of De Sousa.

Friday’s report, which indicated that Maryland received two separate subpoena requests — one on March 15 and the other in late June — marked the first time De Sousa’s name had actually been connected to the investigation, but did not mention any wrongdoing on the part of Maryland, De Sousa or his guardian, only
that Maryland had been contacted by federal investigators requesting all documents and communication between Maryland assistant coach Orlando Ranson and De Sousa.

Although De Sousa was not named in a superseding federal indictment filed in April that alleged improper payment by Adidas to a parent of one former Kansas player — now believed to be Billy Preston — and the guardian of another, the date of his commitment, which was written in the indictment, seemed to connect De Sousa to the investigation.

This investigation seems to be between an assistant coach and a player. Geez... where have we heard that one before?

has the FBI or any other credible source ever stated that BAM received the money himself or someone around him received it to steer him to particular school or agency?

all i have ever seen is the document that says "bad loan"

Where is the evidence? They have evidence that Bowen's father took money.

There are some pretty obvious differences between bam and disousa from what’s been made public

Di Sousa’s legal guardian was paid. Bams coach(who he has long since disassociated himself with) was paid.

Huge difference #2. Di Sousa’s guardian was paid so he would go to Kansas and he did. Bam’s coach was paid to push him to nc state and he went elsewhere.

The NCAA pretty much does what they want in regards to this stuff so they could still declare bam ineligible and Di Sousa good to go but bam and UK certainly have a better case for innocence than Kansas and Di Sousa.

My goodness.

The FBI has enough evidence to subpoena Maryland for their records. A judge isn't going to issue a subpoena for nothing.

A subpoena duces tecum is actually quite easy to obtain, as are many other types of subpoenas in an active case involving litigation. There is no "burden of proof" to obtain one as you suggest.

Actually, you are completely wrong. There is no evidence that De Sousa's guardian was paid. Just the hearsay of someone under indictment by the FBI. The subpoena being brought against Maryland is seeking to find information to corroborate this hearsay.

There is documentation by an Agent listing expenses and a loan made to many players. Other than that, there is no evidence that any of these players took money.

Due process and all that, you know.

You’re done Man. Kansas reign is going up in flames. You know, and everybody else knows that the decades of cheating is crashing down on you. Hey, at least you still have Kansas football to hold onto. Enjoy the memories though, it’s all you have left.

You’re right. It’s all just allegations as far as we know at this point. I’m just pointing to the differences in what’s alleged against bam vs what’s being alleged against Di Sousa since you tried to make that comparison.

Kansas is just misunderstood again, that's all.

Seriously look at your roster year to year. Looks like a bunch of bloods, Kansas is so slimy. Deny it if you want, but it is what it is. Kansas has always been dirty and eventually is gonna go down hard again. Just wait on it and come back when it happens.

Kansas is thug U of the blue bloods.

Yes you did copy goosie21's post,I can see how it was meant as a joke relative to his and the post I made.

You have to admit that over the last 10 or so years something shady seems to come up at KU on a yearly basis yet nothing ever seems to happen to them.It is comical to see Self dance around issues and never really address them, but if he can get away with it then he deserves credit(for lack of a better word) for it.

One of these days things will catch up with KU,or they may not but if they do it will be baaaad don't you think?
