FBI arrests several NCAA basketball coaches

Bill Reiter has a new sports talk show on CBS radio. Said a few minutes ago if half of what connections have told him today is true, college basketball as we know it will be brought to its knees. We shall see.

If a chemistry student or law student were given $80K in advance to work for a company after graduation, there would be no illegality.

"Collegiate sports is an odd mix of capitalism and socialism. The schools and coaches and apparel companies benefit from the capitalistic side, while the student-athletes see their values artificially depressed from the socialistic side. That imbalance is what created this opportunity for corruption."

Don’t be shocked college hoops is dirty

Jurich would rather go down with Pitino than fire him.

If UL has ANY intention of trying to get past all of this, they HAVE to get rid of Jurich. No way around it at this point. Not going into all the shady financial dealings, the guy has been in charge of a laundry list of athletic scandals, lawsuits, crimes, and even a covered-up death of a cheerleader. I don't care what he built or who he hoodwinked to get money into the athletic department, any semi-rational UL fan has to realize you have to cut ties with both he and Pitino. No other way around it.

I'm wondering if McGee decided to sing for the FBI. Maybe he got his funding for those parties from Adidas somehow? Pure conjecture. Just wondering if there could be any connection? Probably not. But I wouldn't be completely shocked

UL would do best by sitting down with the NCAA, accepting all allegations and asking the NCAA what they can do to keep the program alive.

Then follow their suggestions. There us no way to wiggle out of this, it's on video and audio. Regardless of the punishment, outside of the death penalty, they should immediately accept it, be contrite, then move on. It's really the only way.

I can't imagine any of the basketball staff or TJ surviving this.

It's a joke and has been for a long time. Corrupt as hell. All the way from AAU scum to coaches to refs and to NCAA head office.

I don't believe it's as serious as the outlets are screaming. Yea, college athletics are corrupt. So are the pro's. So are a lot of the high school levels, the money just isn't as large and "Jordans" aren't involved.

Replace the system and the newest system will be worse than before, controlled by the inmates themselves. As long as players and parents wants cash, and the reps want the signatures, they will always find a way.

This will not end well for UL or Pitino. Likely complete overhaul of Athletics Dept, maybe miss a year of men's basketball, debilitating probation lasting several years, and Pitino leaving in shame, disgrace.

But until the Fed's charge specific UL employees with crimes, namely Pitino, UL will stand behind the "we didn't know/it was the other guy" defense while they scramble to find ways to save their asses. If someone is charged, then they could hide behind the "we can't discuss an ongoing investigation" defense which could drag on for months while they continue to search for ways to save their asses.

If they want to, UL and Pitino can drag this out for a long time. That makes no sense - how can they even take the court with this hanging over their heads? Well, it is UL and Pitino so dastardly denial and deflection can be expected. Nevertheless, no matter how long it takes, the hammer will drop and it will come down hard.

No charges are necessary. The proof of what UL did already exists. Tomorrow will be an interesting day.

What if nobody at UL has the guts to fire Pitino and Jurich. All they have done and still there. They run the joint. What happens in a case like that?

The statement put out by Pitino late today suggests otherwise. That they plan to go the due process route. We'll find out more tomorrow that's for certain.

Why wouldn’t they, they NCAA has shown themselves to be nothing but a paper tiger. I’d ride the denial train until it runs off the tracks or the NCAA grows a pair.
