The Cats came in at #3 , but what was really laughable is under their (What People Are Saying)... They had concerns about UK's perimeter shooting and they said they know Briscoe can shoot it but dont know if anyone else can... I mean really??

I saw that too. Briscoe looks like he is one of the worst shooters of our perimeter players.

Good research there, espn.

Yeah, this was the quote from the article that makes you scratch your head...

"Last year they had four guys who shot over (30) percent from 3. I know Briscoe can shoot it, but I don’t know who else can — and I also don’t know who can score around the rim.”
It begs the question: has the guy who wrote this even seen who is on the UK team and has he even done his homework?
Let's see, who else can shoot it?
Actually, Briscoe isn't even close to UK's best shooter. We're not really certain of how the order will shake out, but there are 3 candidates who appear to be ahead of Briscoe shooting the ball. Tyler Ulis, Jamal Murray, Michael Mulder. This doesn't include Poythress, Willis, and possibly Hawkins (who I've heard is shooting much better this season). Who ELSE can shoot it? Ha!

And who can score around the rim? Wow! Did this guy forget Alex Poythress is still on the team? And maybe he thought Marcus Lee left for the NBA? Oh, and has he not heard anything about the guy projected to be #1 in the NBA draft next June? Skal Labissiere.

Truthfully, that section is almost embarrassing for the writer here. Why did he even pick UK at #3 at all if he knew nothing of Poythress, Lee, Murray or Labissiere? With the gaping holes in his knowledge of UK, he shouldn't have even picked the Cats in the top 25.

By the way, he says "last year they had four guys who shot over (30) percent from 3" as though that was a strength of last year's team. It wasn't a strength at all. Last year's team didn't shoot it well from distance. The greatest strength of last year's team was its frontcourt talent and depth.

And the other thing that is laughable is that the BEST shooter from last season for UK is STILL on the team- Tyler Ulis shot 42.86% from 3. He will likely improve upon that number this season. I guess he also didn't watch the PanAm games and Murray, either.

One thing you should always do before you begin writing on a particular topic- make sure you know your subject matter. I think some of these guys who call games for UK should take the same lesson. And that doesn't just apply to UK, either. It applies to any team you're covering. If you're writing about a bunch of teams and find yourself uncertain about a couple, find someone who knows and ask them. It's not that hard.

What's most disheartening about it is that this crap gets read by others who then repeat it, more media starts to parrot it, AP voters start to believe it, rankings drop, selection committee members believe it, etc.

It won't hurt us, because we will win a lot of games, but imagine being a Cleveland State fan, praying for an NCAA bid, and reading some garbage like this.

All because one writer is, and I mean this respectfully, an idiot. It's not THAT big of a deal, but it's annoying and it's just sad.

Yeah, that's a terrible take. Ulis, Marray, Mulder, and quite possibly Poythress (don't laugh, he hit 42% as a freshman playing his natural position) will probably have better percentages from behind the arc the season.

And who can score around the rim rim? Really?? God, Skal may be the best in the nation at scoring around the rim this year.

Our question marks this year are whether Poythress is 100%, how aggressive we play defensively, and a somewhat lack of size. For example, what happens when a big man with bulk tries to bully his way inside? Or against a team like Duke who will have a 6'9" Ingram at the three.
